I feel like someone in my store, likely a shift, is doing their damnedest to get me fired. I’ve been written up over a miscommunication, one dress code violation, and now, over something I told my SM that I struggle with. I have ADHD, and it affects me in such a way that I have trouble with organization. Rooms, drawers, cabinets, and tasks. I made my SM aware of this when she brought up that I seemed to be struggling with opening cafe. Sometimes, when I’m really focused on a task, the world around me kind of disappears. My SM said that several shifts came to her saying that they’ll tell me to do something, and that I don’t do it. I stated that unless they catch my attention by tapping my shoulder or making sure I respond with a “yes?”, I won’t hear them because I’m too focused on the task at hand. Another alternative is to write the task on a sticky note or a piece of receipt paper and leave it at my station. I was also trained slightly different at another drive-thru. So a lot of what I do is muscle memory. So I was trained to use the three sink method to clean dishes while the Hobart is cleaning others for efficiency. The shifts told SM that I do this, and I was instructed that only some “soft plastics” were to be washed that way. Otherwise I should wait for the Hobart to finish running and put in another load.
So on this write up, SM told me that all the shifts are frustrated that I still don’t do tasks that are verbally given to me. I brought up,again, that they need to make sure they have my attention before giving me a task. I also brought up the sticky note alternative she seemed receptive to last time. She said that asking the shifts to write a sticky note was an unreasonable request “since they already have so many tasks”. Every time I’ve worked with a shift, after they put away the load and finish the paperwork they do in the back, they’re on the floor with the rest of us. They run breaks from the floor. Maybe I’m missing part of what they’re doing when they’re out there, but tapping my shoulder, verbally confirming that they have my attention, or writing a sticky note doesn’t seem out of the realm of reasonable. I also mistakenly made the sanitizer hot instead of cold by accident, but hardly ever do sanitizers, and when I have, the temperature has never been an issue.
Ive been looking into transferring to a cafe store, which I feel would be a better fit for me, as well as getting away from whatever is going on here. But I was made aware that since I have write ups in my record, I wouldn’t be allowed to transfer. After making it known that I have ADHD and how it affects me, I was told I would be accommodated. I was given a couple of checklists regarding opening procedures, but was never accommodates by having shifts confirm they have my attention or writing a sticky note.
Am I being unreasonable? I was to to call Partner Resources about other possible accommodations, and maybe call my DM about it too.
Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated, just please be kind.
