Getting frustrated (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by heygirlhowyoubean
So I’ve been trying to get promoted from a barista to a supervisor for a couple of months now and was recently interviewed by two managers from my district. One of the two managers came to my store today to tell me that I needed to wait a couple of months until I get promoted, and that in the meantime, I need to seek more feedback from my team. I had been trying to find other stores to promote in because my current manager does not want to promote me in their store, and now it seems…impossible? It’s so disheartening to train two outside hires with absolutely no knowledge of Starbucks who are hired to become supervisors, as well as have another partner who was getting promoted at the same time as me already promoted at a different store. Why is it so hard to promote within the company?

I feel you.

I'm a barista and have been with the company for a year and a half now. However, my SM hired 2 other baristas 2-3 months ago and is already developing them to be a trainer/shift. What the fuck. Keep in mind, these green beans still ask me from time to time how to make a certain drink, or what its recipe contains. It does NOT make sense to promote them, and it is one of the reasons why I'm leaving soon. I am undervalued and it seems like there is no growth here.

I will honestly say, YOU can do much better. There are other jobs our there that will value you and give you more opportunities than Starbucks.

Hi,
I’ve been a barista for a little over two years! So same! The two new partners that I talked about in my post, who were supervisors that were outside hires, had one week of training as a barista and then were immediately put into shift training. The main reason I became a barista trainer was to be a shift because my current manager wants me to develop into one, but I’ve trained eight people already and yet here I am…waiting indefinitely. I feel you on feeling undervalued. I’m honestly just waiting until I finish ASU to quit because I’m so tired of being undervalued by my manager as well as by the company. Hope you have a good weekend :)

Once they got that third party to recruit I feel like it has definitely affected the hiring process, and I’m not sure affective it’s become…
I would maybe try outside districts?

Thank you for your comment! I have been applying to outside districts but it seems even harder? Whenever I talk to the managers in other districts they make it sound like it’s stupid for me to look outside 😭 but I’ll keep applying!
