I’m new! Tips? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BoozaWooza
Hello I’m new I started two weeks ago, and technically I’ve finished training but I’m still so new and idk how to do anything and I feel like a burden and it sucks but also ik that I’m new so I can’t be expected to do everything right and perfectly.
But I really need tips on how to remember how many pumps of syrups, mocha, and shots of espresso goes in the drinks… there are so many numbers to remember and I’m STRUGGLING.

Best thing is to get a sticky note to write the pumps/shots down and just stick it to the espresso bar when you’re on. Or even laminate a small card and put it in your apron.

Also, keep your head up about being a “burden.” New jobs suck. But once you start working each position more, you’ll learn more things to do when you’re slow. You’ll know what to do on CS by being on bar and realizing all of the things you need CS to get you. You learn to make drinks by ringing in orders/DTO. It’s all connected even if it doesn’t feel that way. Let it come to you at a good pace!!

(UPDATE): double shot on ice is now labeled as "shaken espresso" and the venti solely gets 4 shots instead of 5.

Hey! I’m new as well. To help me remember syrup pumps and shots I made flash cards. It’s very overwhelming. It’s so much information that they expect you to remember in such a short period of time. I always ask questions CONSTANTLY, it’s better to ask than get it wrong. Hang in there! Lol I still get called “new girl” when I work so I understand.

My SM printed out a smaller version of the pump/shot amount card they have in the big store binder. I used it as a flash card of sorts for my first few months.
