Unionizing (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Turbulent_Eggplant62
So with Buffalo trying to unionize, if the vote goes through will it be all of starbucks or just that area? Follow up question, if we can all choose to vote is there a place to do it?

Just those stores; they're voting to certify the Workers United *Local* as a a bargaining representative.

Unions are organized out into local chapters which are then considered parts of the same organization rather than being one monolithic group. The workers in Buffalo are voting just about their local chapter.

They'll set a precedent with this vote, though: if it goes through, it'll help to fan the sparks of organization across the country and help to encourage more baristas to organize and force certification.

It's important to remember that Starbucks will do everything in its power to keep us from organizing. After all, "what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one? But, the Union makes us strong!"

Solidarity forever!

This way the unions are organized is actually the grounds on which Starbucks is pushing for the vote to be of the entire Buffalo area rather than just the stores that have been trying to organize; it's a point of precedent that certification votes are for the whole region that local covers rather than individual worksites.

They want to dilute the pro-union votes with apathy, and will have an easier time spreading anti-union misinformation in stores that aren't already trying to unionize.

Talk to your coworkers about it. Keep track of communication because it's illegal to prohibit workers from Unionization.
