Everything you're saying is reasonable. Don't manage your store for minimum wage. Dude, right before I quit I literally bought hand soap on my day off so my store would have hand soap. I don't understand why Starbucks runs its company so poorly. My acting manager could have given a shit that we were running out of soap. Let your store falter. If it gets so bad that you're running out of soap, tell your district manager.

I relate to you because I used to care too much about my store. I mean, the soap thing, of course I knew that wasn't my responsibility and I wasn't really supposed to do it but I wanted to be able to wash my fucking hands. And caring doesn't get you anywhere in this company. You're 100% replaceable. I was a stellar employee who was getting bullied by a coworker and wasn't allowed to transfer and just ended up quitting over it.

Until Starbucks learns how to manage its fucking company, let them suffer. Don't let them blame you. It's not your fault your district manager keeps hiring shitty managers.

Why are they so bad at running this company? Corporate workers come in to my store close by seattle and ask us hella questions like they make the rules right

I think there are lots of factors. I think when a company is big, it's hard to run it because there are so many people in it and so many sections of it. I think they realize even if they do a poor job running it, they'll still makes lots of money and still have lots of employees willing to work for them. I think they hire people who are willing to work for a lower wage/salary, and those people tend to be inexperienced. And I think rather than fire people who need to be fired, they'd rather save money by not replacing them.

I think it is insane the differences between regions in pay. I live the PNW and as a Shift I'm making over $19 an hour, and no, I'm not in a large city. Just a small town. I get that different regions will have different pay based on the expense to live there, but there are shifts getting paid 12 an hour in some places. Like hell no. 19 is barely enough to keep me here. If it wasn't for the benefits at for part time, it wouldn't be. (Going to school full time)

I'm surprised, the pay difference between Barista and Shift is much larger in my area. You're sure the shift rate is still just a $0.10 increase or is that from previous years?

It’s from a couple of years ago. I also work for a licensed store. The company I work for, isn’t contracted to follow the Starbucks pay scale. Now the pay difference is a whole .30.
