There needs to be a damn limit on the number of mobile orders that get placed in an hour. There needs to be a limit on the number of items that can be mobile ordered. Or better yet, get rid of MOP entirely.

IT'S STILL GOING. I've pretty much lost my sanity today and I'm just vibing on a 10 before going back to speak more absolute nonsense to any customer willing to give me a fraction of attention because that's all I need to confuse the hell out of them.

Today was my first open shift alone and being the play caller for peak WHEWWW I tell ya I was BIG STRESSED for my team, just stuck taking orders on POS while they’re being stared at by a growing cafe full of customers

Yep.
asinglearrow3 points1y ago
today was manageable, but yesterday was a nightmare and we ended up turning off mobiles so we could catch up XD
badatlife1545 points1y ago
I think they were starting to play around with the idea of locations that just do mobiles, I could totally get on board with that. It’s having to do cafe/mobile/delivery and having the people standing in the cafe yelling why isn’t my drink done because they can’t comprehend that there are other drinks ordered before them. But yes, there definitely needs to be a better system in place as it stands. It would be great if like most other places there were set times you could select to have your items ready during and if too many orders have been placed for the same time you can’t select that time.
howdudo20 points1y ago
the worst is when i ask the customer what their name is and begin to look ahead of mobiles to make their drink. because just 3 seconds before them someone mobiled ordered 6 drinks then *my supervisor* pops up like a bat out of hell and says 'hey no do them in order. its not fair to the mobile orderers who ordered first. do drinks in order.'
like no let me get this upset customer out of my face then i'll worry about getting the mobiles done before they walk in
badatlife1512 points1y ago
Yeah I mean a lot of times I will try and prioritize the cafe drinks but if I’m pulling out multiple mobile orders to get to cafe they have to wait. Especially since I don’t always know/hear what mobile orders are ready to be picked up in drive thru. Last Friday I had a customer getting so upset because he “just had a cold brew and a muffin” and he was waiting for “over 15 minutes.” We were definitely backed up so he was probably right, but the cafe order in front of him had 6 drinks and we had a green bean on cold bar, so I can only go so fast to get all the other drinks made while also trying to help green bean. But the lobby was also super packed which should have clued this guy into us being backed up, but apparently I’m supposed to dig through all the orders and find the easy ones to do first 🙄 At least yesterday a guy who had been waiting awhile for cafe and I could see was getting impatient, asked if drive thru was prioritized, so I was able to explain that it’s not the drive thru dividing my time it’s the mobiles and delivery orders, so he was able to logically see its hit or miss if coming in is faster. Like thank you customer for understanding.

This is the sort of demand that a union could make on our behalf

This is a valid point. In theory, a hundred people could place mobile orders within a thirty-minute frame of time. In reality, if those hundred people were physically in the store, not only would they not really fit in the store in the first place and have to be lined up outside, they would not be able to place all of their orders within thirty minutes.
Starbucks has too many customers. I know from a business standpoint that sounds kind of ridiculous, but the thing is in reality businesses have limits as to how many customers they can handle. And Starbucks can't handle how many customers it has. Or it doesn't try hard enough. They understaff their stores to save money, they open and operate a lot of stores so it's very easy and convenient for customers to go to a store, they make ordering convenient with drive-thrus and a mobile app, they have a menu that's too large, they have no limit on customizations, they have a rewards program with promotions, they almost never ban customers, they tolerate disruptive customer behavior, etc. This "do anything not to lose the customer" mindset has made a business that can't sustain itself.
I believe there is a limit of 15 items on mobile orders.
blandrogyny9 points1y ago
i agree with all of the above but i have definitely had mobile orders larger than fifteen items.
at least with the new DPM i can show customers how many orders are before theirs and explain how many of them were often ordered within a minute of each other.
it just sucks when the bottleneck issue is one solved by *eliminating a major revenue sourse*bc they definitely won't do that no matter how much we beg
philosopher_cat_lady1 points1y ago
Ha, that's crazy. I thought there was a limit of fifteen. During Christmastime, we turned off mobile ordering tons of times. If you have to turn off an order method several times because your store's understaffed, either staff your fucking store or get rid of the order method. And also, for god's sake, if you convert your store to drive-thru only because you're that goddamn understaffed, also turn off mobile ordering. What customer wants to wait twenty minutes in a drive-thru line as their drink gets cool? The thing is, my SSV would convert the store to drive-thru only but not have the ability to turn off mobile ordering. Only the DM has that ability. Then our DM told us to stop converting to drive-thru only unless there were only two partners on the floor.

I agree today was crazy
Alefur8 points1y ago
Been at work for about 4 hours now, been nonstop, been through at least 3 white mocha, 3 chai, 2 Frapp roast, 2 mocha, an uncountable amount of whip and I've accidentally thrown the shaker lid onto the floor twice. Today's great.
Radiant_Session66017 points1y ago
I was already a little behind in drive thru drinks today because I had to stop to talk with a cafe customer and an 11 drink mobile came through with 3 more mobile orders immediately after it
cinnamonmarigold5 points1y ago
There needs to be a throttling system, people being told how long their order will take realistically.
When I get 20 mobile espresso drinks ordered a minute, it will literally take me hours to catch up. They can calculate the best way to press buttons for routines, but can’t figure that shit out? Give me a break.
Partners are given an impossible amount of orders because at the end of the day, they keep their money, and the employees are the ones dealing with the confused and angry customers.

I walked in to 3 people who had called off 🥲 mobiles were off and café was closed. The customers still gave us hell, was awesome.

I thought it was just our store! Today sucked!

I quit because the job is too stressful now. Something a wise ssv said to me in the beginning when I’d get stressed on bar peaks, “ it’s coffee, everything will be fine and you’re not gonna get fired for messing up a drink” That didn’t work anymore… they put me in the window because I’m good with people and get theee most tips but I’ve also gotten Covid twice. Thanks ✌️
