Any tenured partners (10+ years) getting screwed over with their pay? A Venti Rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by onapapersun
So I have been a partner for about 14 years. In July, when they raised the starting pay, mine wasn't touched at all. My SM fought for me to get my pay raise to match my experience. To get an idea, I make $14.09 in Tennessee. With this recent pay raise of 6%, all I got was 85 fucking cents. This is so incredibly insulting for someone that has been there so long. I am only here because of school and I am trying to avoid more debt. But I am so fucking done with this company. Yes, I am grateful for getting my school paId and having health insurance but when I am stuck living at my parents' house because I cannot afford to live on my own, it's humiliating.

Anyone in a similar position where they got screwed despite the many years put in, it was all shitted on? I'm so upset but I am going to work in a few hours. JUst could also use some encouragement that graduation is around the corner and that I need to hang in there.

Right here. I’m also a 15 year partner and only got a .38 cent raise up to the next barista pay cap. Thanks a latte. I’m only still with sbux for the healthcare and to keep my 401k in tact while I slowly transition out to a new job/field altogether.

> 401k in tact

Can you clarify what you mean by this? Your 401k does not fall apart if you leave. You can just roll it over to a personal IRA or (if Fidelity/Starbucks rules allow it) keep it in the same account.

That’s all correct. I have other variables involved.

My mom was a partner years ago and I think something similar happened to her, that her pay just kind of maxed out. And that was when sbux cared way more for their employees. Now it's basically fast food

Back when you could max your pay...7 years here and I'm still essentially the same as new supervisors.

18 year partner here. I started in 2003 at 8.50 an hour been a shift for over 16 years I make 17.50 now with the brand new baby shifts less than 6 months in making 16.25 . Bullshit.

And they wonder why the company is struggling with employment with everyone quitting
howdudo 9 points 1y ago
i think they want tenured partners to quit. they dont like career baristas. they probably envy the sonic model where they hand the keys to highschoolers and pay them 10 an hour

This is what I think too. They don't even try to hire anyone passionate about moving up in the company in my district anymore. Almost all new hires are minors with very limited availability who want free drinks and SSVs/ASMs who are outside hires.

That's what I told my SSVs yesterday. That I'm just gonna show up and do my bare minimum and simply work my wage. They completely understood my frustrations. I don't even bother picking up shifts anymore because that extra $80 I will make will probably go to taxes or insurance. I too am done and thinking about going on a coffee break so that I can finish school and at least build up my resume. My mental health has gone to the shits because of this job.

If only there was a way for all the partners to collectively express their concerns and needs as a United group to make their voices heard

oh my gosh i am so sorry. partners in my district (tennessee also) are now starting at 13 and if you were here before the summer, they’re now making 13.65 with the 5% raise. i don’t know what you should do, but i def think you should keep fighting for better pay! that’s absolute dog shit that you’re only making a few cents more than a new hire.
onapapersun [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Yup that is exactly what happened. I really want to talk to my new SM and see what we can come up with because this isn't right. Its making me really hate my job and I don't like feeling this way.

While I am no longer a partner, keep fighting because I made $13.50 as SS in Texas in 2006 so yours seems mega low.
