So.. was today just as bad for everyone else too?(self.starbucksbaristas)

Wtaf I literally saw my partners’ morale crush into pieces as we tried to push through ‘peak’ (aka 3 hours of nonstop mobiles and cafe)
Pinephish48 points1y ago
Yeah, we have a bunch of new partners who are super inexperienced and several of partners who just dont show up and dont call in. Lol but we have peach
howdudo17 points1y ago
why does every post and every comment sound like my store. we are all suffering the same way. all 100,000 of us.
if only there was a good way to get together and stand up for ourselves. a collective of people.. united.. we could strike a bargain. partners united striking a bargain for a better deal. what do you call that again ?
grieveslife19 points1y ago
Yes. Had a no call no show for my third in, order day and 4 lunches to run and a 6 person play with maybe 4 of the 6 not constantly needing their hands held. Needless to say, managed to get the order submitted…took me about an hour while trying to simultaneously be on warming. And of course lost a person once “peak was over” only to be bombarded even harder as I’m trying to give my peeps their much deserved 10’s. Had a man tell me I was going to be reported to corporate because I didn’t want to give him my barista’s name after he felt she “made fun of his drink” (it was a novel of customizations and he heard her reading them to us over headset). It honestly just kept snowballing with food running out and huge mobile orders coming in while we were selling and running out of the same food in cafe and drive, and just overall shitty attitudes despite us obviously doing our best. Forgot to even start my food pull til 15 minutes before the cutoff time with all the chaos, right when Mr. Sensitive wanted to speak to the manager and the new guy in front got an order for 2 travelers and the 14 food item mobile order came through. In the end got 15 mins of my meal and none of my tens. I remember why I quit this place the first time years ago and swore I would not promote again this time. I’m a big fat liar to myself. Still somehow beats my last job…so for now, it’s just be there for my partners as they are for me and be there for the customers that really make it worth it. The rest can go suck it.

This was a nightmare to read from start to end. I’m so sorry.
scoutdanylo7 points1y ago
It was pretty bad for us…constant mobile/drive/cafe orders from at least 8-1 when I left, still going strong when I left too. We couldn’t figure out what was going on and were wondering if it was just us XD
slobberingapparition4 points1y ago
We have almost a full 10 partners in isolation right now, so it has honestly been a nightmare at our store. I'm one of the few people working and I can't even have days off (despite having my availability set a certain way) because of this and it sure is a nightmare.
I feel so bad for our greenbeans. They are trying so hard but it's an absolute shitshow from open to close. Our store is tearing itself apart, people are getting mad at each other, no one wants to be there.
The only good thing about today was that we had to close early lol.

Been here just under a month and had my first real "confrontation" with a customer. I was on cold bar and she starts micromanaging me about how to make her trenta iced green tea.
"can I get the fresh green tea, *please*?" (I was using uop the end of a thing of green tea, she wanted the new one behind it, guess she didn't realize they were made at the same fucking time)
"no, no, that's too much lemonade, give me more green tea, *please*" (I was following the EXACT same thing I do every time someone wants light lemonade/water)
"why did you slam my drink so hard? she should go home with that bad attitude!!" (I literally just put it down normally, there was another drink I had to start and I was rushing to get the fuck away from her. I had actually been in a great mood before her because I like cold bar)
that's when my shift noticed and stepped in and told me to just go on drive thru, so he could go calm her down.
Just pissed me off so much. I was making it EXACTLY as the sticker told me to but nooooo, nothing's good enough. Also why the hell do people think it's okay to be irate and aggressive just because they said "please"?? Saying "please" doesn't automatically mean what you're saying is polite. You can say "please" as many times as you fucking want, you're still a bitch.
/end rant, ugh

not today, but yesterday i was having a personally rough day from something outside of work, store manager (who opened with me) got onto me about not getting opening duties done fast enough (even though it’s been like a month since i had an actual opening shift and i only work weekends atm, so i lost my flow a bit) and for not topping off the espresso machines with espresso beans (‘cause i was busy stocking other things in the bar area and then got swamped with drink orders 30 minutes past opening), mobile orders were so bad that we had to turn them off for a while, i dropped several food items on the floor while running oven, almost burned myself twice, store felt really hot (which triggered like a 5 hour long half-panic-attack because it reminded me of the time i was the lone shift supervisor with one barista and our store overheated to 92°F, which was a whole other story i can dive into later XD)
even better, for the afternoon/evening shift, ssv on the clock called me saying their closing barista was a no call/no show and was like “so i know you worked this morning but could you like… come back and cover this girl’s shift?” (i didn’t and just pretended i was taking a fat nap and missed the call bc i was already having a rough day myself and didn’t want to go back to work for the day). found out today that this barista had straight up quit (she was generally pretty happy and i thought she would’ve stuck with us a lot longer but considering our store and the fact that basically the “star pupil” of our store just up and quit two weeks ago, anything’s possible). her boyfriend had given that ssv her written two week’s notice like 5 minutes before her shift was supposed to start and yeah there was no way she was planning on coming back. (texted her later and she told me the store was just mentally draining, she was already on a thin line and just felt like she was sacrificing her own well being for the well being of the store, so yeah i totally get it)
needless to say, yesterday was a time(tm)

Boo! I’m so sorry :( your store manager sounds like they’re projecting their stress onto you... so just everyday in the life of an ssv 🥴
thewoodschild3 points1y ago
It was a fucking nightmare today. People who order all complicated need to fuck off
enachos3 points1y ago
Currently on my 30 and when i get back it will be a 2 partner close, myself and my only barista for the night bc of a call out and its only 5:30pm. This is the third Saturday in a row where this has happened to me, and stepping down from SSV to barista sounds sooooo good rn.
Alefur3 points1y ago
Currently 6:32pm, still going. This Saturday is wack
Vilali2 points1y ago
I got yelled at and called a "fucking mess" because someone got the customer's name wrong.
ScreechingEagle2 points1y ago
Yes omg!!
But at least for me and my store's partners, not in a *bad* way: no insane same-drink cf combos, no monster warming orders, no skeleton-staffing under full-body conditions, aka, none of the stuff that makes some locations so soul-crushing.
We were (*are,* actually, just on my 10 rn ⚰️⚰️) just so, so busy today. Constant orders since 930AM with peak starting shortly beforehand (at like 9AM), but it's been fun! Definitely a grind but a solid shift so far ❤️
neonphoenixslayer [OP]1 points1y ago
I’m glad at least ONE store out there is vibing
navkabar2 points1y ago
it was rough. green beans in my way all day long. (not their fault, but frustrating all the same.)
AtTheBarMatt2 points1y ago
Were training for a new store opening, that got pushed back til January...I have 3 trainees in sometimes at the same time. We also have 2 others training rn and like 7 other green beans, a shift on vacation and one that just quit. Basically 3 of us holding the place together for 15hrs a day.
navkabar1 points1y ago
our store is a little better off than that, but the constant turnover is really starting to take a toll on the more experienced partners. i feel for u, hang in there.
lexifreda1 points1y ago
ended up having to go home an hour before i got off bc i caught the flu :)
kurokurokii1 points1y ago
i literally want to quit because of today
electricblackjack1 points1y ago
Yeah, what the hell was in the air today? But even with mobiles turned off we were swamped.😞😞
neonphoenixslayer [OP]1 points1y ago
Breaking news! New side effect of the vaccine has been discovered: people can’t stop fucking spending their money on Starbucks
decemberisforcynics1 points1y ago
Even my indepedent cafe got absolutely fucked. I can't imagine how badly Starbucks got hit too 😬
maidofpuns1 points1y ago
Yep! We're a Tarbucks and both corporate locations in town were closed all day long. I was on my own from 7:00-10:30 because we have single person opens, had my first precloser in at 10:30 and we barely managed to keep enough ice in our ice bin (among other backups, cups, and lids that kept running out), second precloser in at 12:30 when I had 20 minutes left before I had to do my lunch, we pulled sandwiches and covered the break for the Target cafe, closer was in at 3:00, and til I left at 3:45 with a line that never ended I was running around making whips, sweet cream, lemonade, refresher pitchers, you name it. Everything is fine! This is fine 🙃
RocketGirl4251 points1y ago
1/2 hour to close last night...group of 27 ppl came in. 1 barista. 🙃 He was the real MVP.
neonphoenixslayer [OP]1 points1y ago
*clocks out*
Butterflybo0ty1 points1y ago
Yes always
zewave_1 points1y ago
Yeppp. drive thru line crossed entire parking lot, lobby line went to tthe back of the store, all while mobiles were on. deliveries were too until my sm went on lunch and my coworker said screw it and turned deliveries off herself 🤣🤣🤣
ValenciaTarot1 points1y ago
Yeah today was wild we had a no call no show and one training partner and one fairly new partner working 😱
sequineddoomcloud1 points1y ago
Yep. I'm currently in SSV training and getting the hang of everything, and I got a taste of what it's like to run a shift under high mobile orders and quite literally everyone needing multiple breaks.
