Call out? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by chinksauces
So I’m running a fever and it’s late af rn on Saturday, and I’ve been asleep all day. I open tomorrow at 4:30am.

I tried messaging, what I believe was a supervisor but I might be wrong, earlier about my symptoms, but no response. There are two people with the same name and I believe one is a store supervisor and the other is a shift but idk who is who based on last names.

Should I message the other two supervisors even tho it’s almost 8pm at night about my fever? Or do I go in anyways?

I don’t have the schedule but I know I open tomorrow, hence why I couldn’t find anyone to cover. Plus my apps aren’t even downloaded yet, it’s been like 6 hours.

Please help. I’m a green bean.

I don’t know anyone else opening besides the two supervisors unfortunately. 🥺

If all else fails, just set an alarm and call them in the morning!

Call out. Morning of at 4:30am. It’s the only way you’ll be able to slide. They can’t make you work if you are sick. I’m an SSV and it’s the only way I know of to call out sick.

You should be calling your store manager if you can’t get a hold of your supervisor, they will do covid coach with you and you’ll be out for at least 72 hours minimum I believe if you have a fever, but you can’t work and you don’t have to find coverage. That is your SM’s problem, as listed in the handbook.

Texting is not an approved form of communication. Call them and or call right when the store opens.

why is this btw? communication is communication, i never understood why this was the policy

It’s a standard business practice

yes, but why. at my current job we email to call out, we don't have to call the office. this is why i am curious

Make sure you call the store if you are sick it’s part of protocol! Anyways take care of yourself first and don’t forget to use your sick hours ❤️

Never text out. Starbucks standard is you call the store. Just call and let whoever is on the floor at the time know you are unable to open. They will do their best to find coverage and thats the best thing you can do. Feel better and never feel bad if you need to call put for being sick!

Call your manager if your supervisors aren't answering! The sooner they know the opener isn't coming in, the better. I hope you feel better soon!
