Call out
enigmaticpineapplee 5 points 1y ago
yeah i got that. i am just not used to no one being awake ahead of time at 4:30 am when my alarm went off. the idea of calling my shift right at 5 when she gets there and letting her down that i can’t be there fucking sucks. so, i wanted to make sure there was nothing else i could do.

Call other people for coverage.

So the standard is you have to call out 2 hours before your shift in order for there to be no repercussions. However, it’s obviously a lot harder to call off 2 hrs before hand when you open. Call your store manager and explain the situation, sometimes they can come in for you bc a store isn’t allowed to open with less than two ppl. In the case that the manager doesn’t answer and you’re not physically sick, you could come in to open until the next barista comes and can replace you so there are two ppl in the store. Always try your best to find coverage so your teammates aren’t behind. If you’re physically sick and you’ve tried to contact your manager and they don’t respond, contact your shift supervisor for the day and let them know you won’t be able to come in and your manager hasn’t responded so they know not to enter the store and they can handle the situation from there. Never feel bad abt being sick! You’re doing yourself and your teammates a favor by staying home and getting better! We want what’s best for you and that’s being happy and healthy!

If you call a manager at home at 3 am they are significantly more likely to be upset at you then if you call the store right at open to call out.
