The customers I almost killed - but instead did it with kindness (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’m a trainer - as I have said in other posts. We have a couple new babies at our store. One of them was working drive thru by himself. We started getting busy so I hopped on over there to help him out. I took these two kids’ order. They asked for an Oreo frappuccino. I explained that we have the mocha cookie crumble, but what a lot of people will do to make it more like an Oreo is sub white mocha. They said that sounded good. I confirmed that’s what they wanted. They said yeah but add extra caramel drizzle and said two ventis! I put it in. Gave them their total. They drove to the window. We also had a green bean on bar. She made those drinks like a pro and as she was finishing up, my drive thru green bean looked at me all worried and asked for my help. I walked over and he said that they were asking for something different. So I popped my head out the window and asked what was up. They said they ordered two vanilla bean frappuccinos… I was shocked because that is blatantly not what they said AT ALL. So I was like… “okay… so you do not want the Oreo frappuccinos??” And they said “no… we were just asking if you knew how to make those!” Again, blatantly false, but alright. I was like “okay! Sounds great! Two vanilla bean frappuccinos and you still wanted the extra caramel drizzle?” And of course they did. I changed their order and charged them for that instead. They paid. I turned to the green bean on bar, she was annoyed because she had just finished their actual order, but again, like the champion she is, she busted out two venti vanilla bean frappuccinos as fast as she could. When we handed them out, they began to get frustrated with the drive thru green bean… one of their vanilla bean frappuccinos was actually supposed to have coffee… again… not something they said. Bar green bean said she’d make it, so she did. We handed it out. (No, we did not let them keep the drinks they didn’t want). They were getting ready to ask for something else but I told the drive thru green bean to just close the window after telling them to have a great day! They were absolutely just messing with us. But I was beyond livid at them. :)

I don't understand what people get out of this!! Do you think they were just trying to scam you for free drinks?
lilkiosk [OP] 37 points 1y ago
Me neither. Either that or they just thought it was funny to mess with us. We kept the drinks they didn’t want so they couldn’t get the free drinks. It was all very frustrating.

Yes I would be livid. Sounds like your two green beans handled it like pros though :)

Yeah I’m super proud of them! Dealing with those sorts of customers is never easy, so I’m glad they handled it well!

It sucks being a green bean and seeing what Starbucks customers are like.

Completely agree. I'm a green bean myself (3 months) but I come from a background of hospitality so I'm not even surprised to see that sober customers are as just bad - or worse than drunk ones!

Edit: missing word

I hope the green beans enjoyed the “Oreo” Frappuccino’s if they wanted them 🙃

They should've been banned for wasting product. (Just kidding, Starbucks doesn't ban people.)

Fun fact: we got a woman banned from Starbucks. But I am 100% sure stores outside of our district do not enforce this! :)

There are two people banned from the Starbucks's in my area. They're two brothers who are mentally ill and chronically homeless. One stole a woman's purse from a Starbucks, and the other goes on white supremacist rants. Fun fact: the latter was my next door neighbor at my apartment complex for a while.

They were 100% hoping to get free frappuccinos and also to have fun making OP's store do their bidding. They got at least part of that

And this is exactly why when a customer gets what they ordered, that should be the end of the transaction and we should not let them change their order at the window.

It's the worst when their tone gets aggressive when you try to keep things calm. Nothing like getting screamed at by THE person making a 10 minute freeze in drive.

Wish Sb would record the voices and for each customer who orders then you have the ability to play the recording back to them. But ofc after the order is done and they’ve driven off the recording is deleted so there’s room for the next one. It’d be so satisfying to call these people out
