Sometimes paper cups aren’t recyclable due to the lining, like our hot cups, so the plastic cups are often easier to recycle.

Denying water is a touchy issue because it is illegal in some capacity so it’s easier for all involved to just let them have as much water as they want.

Starbucks isn’t using the blank cups so you don’t see the logo when it’s litter, it’s because they’re cheaper to produce when blank and they started to make them when cup supply was low.

You have good points here that I didn’t realize. For the multiple ice waters we could limit it to “1 per customer” (only for the non-paying customers)that way we aren’t denying water and it doesn’t slow down service for the actual paying customers waiting for us make multiple ice waters for one person that didn’t pay for anything(this happens very often) . I understand they’re still customers, but they are people paying for not only a drink but a service “customer connections” We are also a very busy location as well.

And they could’ve produced smaller plastic cups(tall size)That way they use less plastic.

EXTRA RANT

you also have to realize that Starbucks doesn’t think logically sometimes. Let’s say a customer wants a strawberry açai lemonade with light ice. The barista has to ask them if they want more strawberry base or lemonade. For inventory purposes. How does this make sense for no ice drinks. We’re practically using the same amount of base or lemonade as if someone ordered 3 strawberry acai lemonades. And anyone who mobile orders which is a lot at our location can’t specify if they want more strawberry or lemonade. Sorry for the extra rant I’m just tired of all these changes😂😂

We’ve been getting unbranded cups to serve water in so that we don’t run out of our actual cups to serve drinks in because of the recent shortages. Some stores have periodically run out of different size cups so in order to minimize that Starbucks gave us separate water cups. As far as I know the paper straws are temporary because we had a shortage of our plastic straws from our supplier.
