This is gonna be my 3rd red cup day, basically you just need to be as staffed as possible which isn't always realistic, have aces in their places, and just roll with it . The ppl are gonna come in droves, but both years we ran out of cups 2-4 hours in even when we had more shipped last year than the year before. If you've worked happy hour you'll be fine and just remember work is only part of your day and you always get to leave after!!! Remember self care after 🤗 if you're a customer that really wants a cup come within the first hour of opening.

Former barista and it at least used to be the day of holiday launch, when Starbucks gives out a free reusable cup with purchase of a holiday beverage. The first year I remember they were plain red, and people went insane over them. Like throwing things and destroying impulse displays because stores ran out of the red cups type of crazy. Obviously not every customer, but enough of them across the US for red cup day to earn it's notoriety.
Part of the issue is that they sent very few cups to most stores, and iirc they were pretty hyped up, so they ran out by like 8am in most places and people got mad. My mid-volume store (50-60 transactions/half hour during peak) only got two sleeves, and the cups were gone before peak. They may have made improvements in the years since, idk bc I always succeeded in not working launch lol.

i realized i’m working that day and i am so nervous, it’s my first red cup day but i have heard so much about it and last year when my bf was working at the store i work now it looked terrible. so i’m nervous
