"You asked if I wanted to add anything else off the menu to my order... how about you? Hehe ;)"
May I never have to deal with another perverted older man trying to hold my hand as I pass him his drink :)
Think-Ad-551466 points1y ago
Best of luck with your new chapter in life, and I’m so sorry for how disgusting old men can be. You didn’t deserve that treatment.
Aspire145 [OP]65 points1y ago
Thank you..
That was the main reason I quit outside of the severe understaffing at my store. A lot of the old men were very disgusting in the comments they made towards me and my other female baristas. Had one man wink and say "are you ready for me to come inside?" When he slid the chip card in the machine.
Lol I think I threw up a bit in my mouth writing that.

Why are men so gross to people who work in customer service 😕
Aspire145 [OP]30 points1y ago
I think these specific individuals get away with it because no one reports it and when we do, they can deny it. It's a shame.
philosopher_cat_lady18 points1y ago
This makes me want to cry. They all should have been banned, and management should believe women when they say they're being sexually harassed.
always_hungryy11 points1y ago
Not true. Report it every time. Make a note of the persons physical description and tell your manager you were uncomfortable and felt he entered harassment territory. If your manager doesn’t ban them from the store contact partner resources ASAP. I know you left the company but this is for all baristas here. Take this shit seriously. I literally was stalked by a customer (and was underage/just turned 18 when this happened) because my manager didn’t take it seriously and honestly neither did I. The customers have no right to treat us like that. We’re not fucking show animals were human beings just trying to make a paycheck
philosopher_cat_lady11 points1y ago
Because they know we can't stand up for ourselves.
Regular-Tennis1349 points1y ago
It’s so depressing that you’ve hit the nail on the head
[deleted]3 points1y ago
100 percent i grew up with mentality take shit from no one even if it is the customers lol.
[deleted]4 points1y ago
My abuser became tend times worse when he found out I work in customer services instead of being drugged by him at mental health hospital.
whatisprofound14 points1y ago
Back when I was female presenting I would have MADE him explain what he meant. Like all innocent and unaware of how disgusting his intentions were. Old men hate it when you make them actually verbalize how smarmy they are.
Aspire145 [OP]10 points1y ago
His daughter was in the car too. I felt more embarrassed for her than myself so I just let it go as it was my final shift.
SelocAvrap8 points1y ago
Same! I loved playing the "explain it to me" card, especially after they'd say "it's just a joke" and I'd respond "I don't get it"
Tricky-Insurance-6746 points1y ago
I am a massage therapist and when men make the happy ending joke I make them explain. They get suuuuper uncomfortable
Think-Ad-55149 points1y ago
Omg noooo, that’s so horrible. May i ask what part of the country you’re in? I’ve had plenty of jobs and I’ve never once experienced something so grotesque. I have had one customer when I was 16 working at McDonald’s who said I should use titty milk for his coffee. Because I asked if he wanted any milk. I didn’t understand what he had said because he said it in Spanish and my manager heard and told me not to laugh at him and told him not to be so disrespectful and he apologized. I understand how uncomfortable you must’ve felt. Im just glad I didn’t catch on to it initially because I don’t know what I would’ve said.
Aspire145 [OP]11 points1y ago
I worked in Chicago. People think they can speak to retail workers any kind of way. It's really disgusting.
Sassycamo393 points1y ago
That would not be ok at my store. I had one guy try something like that at my store once. I let him know that it is not ok to disrespect any person inside or outside of Starbucks. If any kind of disrespect happens again he will be asked to leave. It might have helped that right as I was saying that some of our amazing local PD walked in to get coffee.
redtreeandpapaya1 points1y ago
Oh gawd, if I encounter that I will not stop myself saying, “are you ducking kidding me?!” I now prefer customers asking for weird drinks over perverts.
greys00763 points1y ago
i would've dropped his drink and made sure it made a mess on the inside and outside of his car
marek_intan15 points1y ago
This is honestly why I’m the store’s designated window person. Not only am I good at the customer connection thing, I am a dude. I’ve blue balled at least one creepy customer enough times that he’s stopped coming back, and I’m happy
Aspire145 [OP]12 points1y ago
I worked on shifts that were mostly female so it came down to who has the most dominant personality to push back on people like this so they always gave me the window because I take no shit lol
marek_intan7 points1y ago
I’m glad you were able to help out your coworkers like this, and I’m sorry you had to serve as their shield. For now, I am glad to take that role at my store
here_forthefun1 points1y ago
I’m glad your store has you :). Taking one for the team and keeping the girls safe too
asinglearrow12 points1y ago
so glad i haven’t had to deal with that so far (might be bc we’re a cafe/mobile order only store, so most older men we see are our regulars), but we did have one guy put his name down as “handsome” and told the barista at pos that he wasn’t gonna pick it up the first time they call the order ‘cause he wanted to hear the word “handsome” several times. my boss wasn’t having it and just called out the drink itself instead of the name XD
wok3less4 points1y ago
I HAD THE SAME LINE USED ON MY RECENTLY “anything else for you today?” “can i take you home with me?” “hahaha…”
philosopher_cat_lady3 points1y ago
How about fuck you
CheesyRiceCat1 points1y ago
Is this at OP or at the creepy old dude?
philosopher_cat_lady2 points1y ago
Creepy old dude
[deleted]1 points1y ago
I have had my whole college older male manger come after me at my job. I have plead for my stores to banned him when I am serving. I am not a student at his school anymore literally has no business disrupting my routines. I just go to starbucks grab my coffee thats it because I am able to afford it.
The stores so happen to hire me during lock down. They sent influx of complaints, so forth that I am working. He didn't get the pleasure to force me in a mental health home.
TheSuntannSuperman-6 points1y ago
Women can be pretty creepy and gross too, but damn that sucks
Aspire145 [OP]11 points1y ago
I'm aware women can, unfortunately, be creepy and gross too. My post didn't deny that. Sorry if that's been your experience.
TheSuntannSuperman-3 points1y ago
It was just a general statement, probably should've just said "customers can be creepy and perverted". It's all fun and games until you have to listen to a 5 minute speech about how your energies align and you're spiritually a match
Aspire145 [OP]4 points1y ago
Omg lol. People are wild. I hope you escaped that interaction unscathed.
[deleted]1 points1y ago
'oh no' soundbites There has been unintentionally flirting from women at the pos. I avoid a lot
