Theres a lot of people talking about the horrid customers but can we take a second and talk about the high schoolers? (self.starbucksbaristas)

My job is by a high school and the kids are 90 kinds of bad news. They’ve vandalized our store in more ways than one and they mass fill our bathrooms for 15min to smoke or be nasty with one another.
They’ve threatened partners and surrounded cars and filmed our baristas. They’re horridly disrespectful and blatantly ignore us when we tell them something. Including our manager.
This can’t be just us- who else?

Also- corporate has done nothing but take their side. The school’s principal used to pass by and cops would come but now that’s a negative and we’re literally left to deal with it whilist not being supported. I have no idea how to approach this to get this sorted.

Start a labor union? I would say tell the media but you can be fired for doing that. I would suggest having your entire team threaten to go on strike unless the problem students are banned, but it's possible that your manager would be told to fire all of y'all, and your store would close for a little bit while a new team is hired. You sound pretty screwed. I would try transferring to another store. If that doesn't work, you're just gonna have to deal with the shitty customers. Lord knows every store has them.

And I second your argument that teenagers are garbage.

You are allowed to kick out customers that are negatively effecting the “third place” environment. You could also talk to your SM about possibly implementing a rule that unaccompanied minors are not allowed alone in the store or something like that. You should definitely be allowed to kick them out if they’re threatening partners and filming them without permission.

I actually am one of the SMs and we’ve done a lot. We’ve only been able to kick out those who have vandalized our store. But even then they still come back and Im told to still serve them their free cup of water. We had the principal ând school security come by and check IDs to see if students are where they need to be, because majority of them are skipping, putting us over capacity -and a parent complained to corporate and it’s considered « discrimination against the high schoolers. » Which makes literally no sense. It’s saddening though to see our baristas progressively get annoyed with their behavior and we have yet to find an Avenue that backs us up.
