Why are drive thru times so important? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Adventurous_Board933
I truly would like to know? Most of the experienced baristas at my store say that it's only important cause the store manager gets a bonus is that true? Everyone at my store is rallying to get an incentive for us for drive thru times

you’ve answered your own question . if drive times are low , sm gets praised and a bonus . then we are expected to maintain that pace , and go faster

SM only gets bonus based on sales. No other metrics come into play.

Yes, but if dt times are low that means that more cars can go through during peak and less customers are discouraged by long dt lines/wait times. OTW times are not the metric used for directly receiving bonuses, they are more of an indicator of what a SM could maybe expect (when coupled with UPH and sales metrics)

SM's don't get bonuses for DT times lmao

Bc the lower the time, the more crusties to spend money.

But never has SB said that’s great (insert number here) now just maintain!
Nope they say go faster with FEWER partners and MORE customizations

It’s a never ending hamster wheel and it’s bullshit

the expectations my store has are ridiculous. during peak, they want times to stay below 40 which is so unrealistic. we’re expected to stall whenever the customer orders a breakfast sandwich so that way the food is ready by the time they get to the window🙃

It goes into customer experience. From a bigger perspective they take fast drive thru = happy customer which is like 90% of a drive thru customers concern. If the wait is long, it’s an indicator of a hold up somewhere in production too

Yeah drive thru times are specifically a corporate wish which will up customer satisfaction. Store managers get a sales only bonus (talk to my SM today about it cause one day I would like to be one and he said even when he gets it it's heavily taxed (atl for reference)). I get really annoyed at drive thru times because some drinks take a long time like Frappuccinos if we had a cold bar position I don't think it would be so bad but we don't. Also it make it impossible to get customer connections scores as high as they would like.

Non drive thru store barista here… how are drive times calculated? I’ve always wondered..

The main time they watch is from when they pull up to the window to when they pull away, then it’s averaged between each customer per half hour. It’s an annoying metric that actually does represent how well the play is going. I’m not saying pushing super low times is a good thing, but knowing customers are waiting 2-10 minutes is a good indicator to know how a play and staffing levels are working. Short wait times also stops people from coming inside.
