We do full pumps at the store I work at. I’ve read on Reddit it’s half pumps but I don’t know how to go about bringing it up. I’m a couple months in and don’t want to come off as a know it all correcting everyone. I also wonder if we should change it now that all our customers are used to the full pumps in their drink? Any suggestions from fellow baristas?

i’m a former barista, but all shaken espressos are supposed to get half pumps. (i.e. grande shaken espresso would get 4 half pumps/2 full pumps of classic). i would bring it up to a shift and just refer to the recipe cards. they’ll confirm. if the customers complain just tell them that y’all are making the drink to standard and if they want double the pumps, it can be remade. i understand how that would be a hassle tho for sure

You can be like “hey *store manager* I forgot how to make the bsose and looked up the recipe card. I think we are supposed to be using half pumps. Is that correct or did I misunderstand?”
I promise you that the more in sync Starbucks stores are the better. We want customers to have a consistent experience because a. that’s a key goal of our company and b. Because they’re super fucking nasty when the *other* Starbucks does something different for them.
If you’re correct and are chill about it, no one should give you shit. If they do, then they’re just an ass themselves.

I love this suggestion. Thank you 😊

you could pull out the recipe card and keep it around, it should say CBS on it. If you see someone doing full pumps just point them towards the card

I have only been here for a month, what exactly are half pumps and when are they used? I’ve heard it before but no one ever explained it to me in a way I can understand

Half pumps are tear-drop shaped. They dispense half the amount of syrup that full pumps do. Half-pumps are used on liquid cane sugar and brown sugar, as well as any syrups for frappuccinos.
Frapps get half pumps, iced teas get half pumps, and shaken espressos get half pumps. Some cold brews get half pumps, but tbh I’m not sure which ones do and which ones don’t anymore since they changed the recipes for the cold brews on us. I believe iced coffees get full pumps, but that I’m not sure of either.

If anyone else is at a licensed store like me with no half pumps, our recipe card if corrected to have less pumps. We do 1/2/3 full pumps! Just putting this out there for anyone who was as confused as I was
