New shift - need help! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Final-Pomelo
Hi, I am having my first solo opening shift tomorrow and I have some questions if anyone can answer.

1. 18 hour pull- I know that I count BoH and FoH eggbites/HCCT, does that include the ones in the freezers as well?

2. Change order- I know that I set the safe to open door 2 and use the key to bypass the 10min wait time. I give the Brinks guy all the deposit bags in door 2(and he will give me one as well?????) I usually wont have time to count it immediately because it comes during peak so I can just leave the new deposit bag in door 1 for when I am ready to count it? When I am ready to count, I get 1 deposit bag and the safe pouch > go to back computer > log in partner hub > Changer order > and then I have no clue what to do.

3. I leave at 12pm, but store closes at 4pm, do I close tills? I just realized that I don't think I've ever closed a till before.

any help is greatly appreciated, thanks :)

Hi friend!

1: that is correct but DO NOT COUNT THE FOOD IN THE FREEZERS. Counting BoH and FoH just tells the system what you have left over from yesterday so that it can tell you how much to pull. Counting what’s in the freezers would mess up that number and you wouldn’t be pulling any sandwiches. So I repeat DO NOT COUNT FOOD IN THE FREEZERS WHEN DOING THE PULL! Only count the food that is in the thaw fridge in the BoH and the food that is in the warming fridge(s) in the FoH.

2: Brinks guy will only give you a change order if it is change order day. If they do give you one and it comes during peak lock it behind door one. Later take the bag with the change order, the safe pouch, and a fresh deposit bag and go to the computer. In cash management there’s a change order section and it’ll have you confirm the change order is correct (correct amount of bills and change which can be edited if it doesn’t match what’s in the computer) and then have you create a deposit for the change order. You pull the money for the change order from the bigger bills in the safe pouch and put the correct amount into the fresh deposit bag with the deposit slip that you’ll print after you confirm the change order is correct which you’ll seal, write in the brinks log, and drop into the safe.

3: This is really up to what your shift team prefers. If it were me I would count down two of our four tills and lock them in the safe to have ready for the next day. If your closing shift prefers to do it themselves then I would let them handle it.

Okay friend that’s all I’ve got for you. Don’t worry about anything your shift team is there to support you and we all hit bumps in the road along the way. You’ve got this! Have a wonderful day tomorrow!
