Schedule question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by snitchesendupinditch
So I honestly dunno if this is against any rules or not but I noticed that the ASM at my store sometimes changes the schedule (like multiple times) mid-week. I got to work today expecting to be off at 12:30 and then noticed that my lead's schedule shows I'm supposed to be here until 1:30. I pointed it out to one of my more senior coworkers so she went to the back and checked the schedule on the wall and said that one showed 1:30 too. So I felt like I was going nuts but then I double checked my photos bc I always take a picture of the schedule when it's posted, and sure enough the one I photographed shows me being off at 12:30.

Like I said, idk if management is allowed to change the schedule in the middle of the week like that but I'd think they should at least have to tell you if they do?? Because I know this same schedule that was changed also originally had one of my coworkers having a day off and then when it was changed she lost her day off and nobody gave her a heads up.

I think technically we can change schedules 24 hrs in advanced, doesn't mean we should without notice. I will always text/call partners for an already posted schedule to check if its okay because well, common sense.. It makes for the best partner experience and thus happier partners. Partners should not be expected to constantly check their schedules imo.

I would also say, if that other partner was reprimanded for the schedule change call PRSC. If I changed a schedule and failed to communicate, thats on ME and not that partner.

Luckily my other partner didn't have an issue, she noticed the day before and pointed out that if she worked that shift, it would have her working 13 days in a row. So she didn't have to come in.

It just seems like there's a lot of scheduling errors in my store. A few days ago I had to point out to my ASM that I was scheduled to work 8 days straight.

Is your actual SM around and available? If so, have you tried talking to them about the scheduling? The ASM should be under the guidance of an SM.

In my reading on this sub, the term "technically" is always followed by the suckiest BS! As if partners don't have to get to class, their second job, arrange child care, transportation. As if we just existed in a void out here for the "we" to place and rearrange at will as long as it's 24 hrs inadvanced (sic)? Come on! listen to yourself! Post a schedule and stick to it! If you need coverage, check the schedule and text a partner who is off and no judgement when they say no.

Did you not read my reply? I didn't condone what the other SM did and stated that as a manager I always text or call once the schedule is posted instead of changing schedules without their knowledge. No need to get hostile over me providing a manager perspective. Peace and love.

When reading this sub I have found when "technically" is used, it's followed by a policy. You may think it's sucky, but if partners are asking questions to determine if they can go to prsc and get their manager in trouble, I would assume they would want Starbucks policy on the subject. Not something to make everyone feel good.

Personally, I think you are a terrible manager if you habitually make a change to a schedule without at least a weeks advance notice. I try not to ever change anyone's schedule if it's been posted if at all possible.

Schedules should be posted 2 weeks in advance as part of the SM approach. If changes are being made or your schedules aren't being posted in said timeframe, I would recommend reaching out to your DM and making them aware that you are having a hard time making plans due to your schedule not being posted in the required timeframe.

Follow the online schedule. Not the printed one

Yeah they’re definitely not allowed to do that even if they told you it’s a big no no for management

Yeah i was just gonna say what other said, they technically can change anything as long as it’s 24 hours in advance. But they *should* still give you a heads up as courtesy if they changed your shift imo
