What are the minimum hours I can work at Starbucks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kittybear_
Hi everyone, I was hoping you guys could help me answer this. I’d like to work at Starbucks to make some extra money, but my schedule is pretty full. I’d like to work there 10 hours but could do 15 if I had to. I could only work nights and I’d need 3 specific days off. I’m assuming this is too much to ask? At the same time almost every Starbucks in my area is hiring so I know they need people. Im very used to the fast pace/busy environment that the job would bring so I’m not too worried about that. Any comments would be appreciated!

I’m getting brought on right now and I requested 10-20 hours a week, evenings mostly. One mgr I interviewed with said 12-16 would be no problem but the other mgr said working less than 20 didn’t justify the training. I agreed to 20 but that’s pushing it for me. Less would be better. It seems to me -after speaking with several mgrs - that it highly depends on that store and the mgr themselves. If you get hired you’re basically hired for all stores so maybe request a store that can accommodate your specific needs. You are right, stores are desperate for baristas. They will likely make a schedule that works for you but it may be at a store different than where you applied.

This is good info, thank you so much! Good luck with your 20 hrs a week :/

You too! I really think they’ll work it out for you. I could’ve took the store that was less hours but it was in an area I didn’t want to commute to. Good luck and hope it works out for you! 😊

I know someone who only works 6 hours a week (sunday am). when i started i was clocking 14-17 hours a week. it will be up to your manager and how staffed your store is

I figured that might be the case. Thank you!

I imagine that you will need to have well over 15 the first week or two for training. After that, depending on your store, you might be fine to drop down to that few of hours

Makes sense, thank you for your comment!

When I was hired I was told the minimum was 12 but they for over a year I only worked 8 or less a week and now I work 9 ish and I’ve always had a super limited schedule because of school and I’ve found managers are willing to work with you especially if u are willing to work on the weekend like I was

That’s good to know, thank you so much!

A coworker of mine works a total of 4.50 hours a week, you should be good

There’s two partners at my store that legit are only scheduled to open on Saturday mornings until 10. You’d be solid asking for only 10 hours!

Thank you so much!

I worked in the UK (wales) and did 8hours a week during my studies

It really is up to the manager.

However, given that you're asking for less hours in a week than than the training takes I would be surprised if you get hired.

Now, if you were coming in trained ..

I have a 16 hour part-time contract (Scotland), and I work two opens a week.

i think the lowest amount of hours a week someone works at my store is 17 but it probably varies based on how understaffed or not your store is lol
