Are you referring to the daily order or the weekly?

Either way it's not necessarily a ssv job responsibility so yeah it's fair.
coldcatsoup 6 points 1y ago
Weekly order, and pastry order as well as pastry count
dogsofwintergaming 8 points 1y ago
Count should be SSV or above.
coldcatsoup 2 points 1y ago
I guess it’s just tedious and very hard on my back.
HamburgIar_ 25 points 1y ago
You could always ask your ssv if someone else can do it? Most Barista's at my store would love a break from the floor to put away the order.
coldcatsoup 4 points 1y ago
Yeah. I just needed to vent. I moved out of nursing and back into Starbucks because it was going to be easier on my body, especially my back. But now pastries has turned into the weekly order, 3,800 lbs of supplies today. Just hard work, putting pastries away, counting them and then getting to start on the truck.
jackissosick 12 points 1y ago
It was always a barista job at my store, but if it's hard on your back, definitely tell your manager and I'm very confident they'll take you off. They have to make reasonable accommodations for you and that feels like a very reasonable accommodation
Brief_Coat6526 7 points 1y ago
I rather do that than be in the front…that’s just me
mayor-em 6 points 1y ago
There was retraining on the csr cards that tasks like this fall under teamwork. So as a member of the team anyone can do things. If you feel like not a part of the team then maybe have a 1:1 with your SM about roles and responsibilities. But if a SSV is just asking you to accomplish a task that isnt out of your scope of knowledge they just need help. We all need help right now, i definitely lean on my baristas to help me with my day.
coldcatsoup 3 points 1y ago
Sounds like a lack of Supervisors has caused this new “retraining” get paid Barista wage for a shift’s role.
queenrara 6 points 1y ago
Anyone can put away boxes. That was never a hard "shift role". Staffing has nothing to do with it. I would suggest a 1:1 with your manager who probably doesn't know how you feel about it. You're probably being scheduled to complete this task because you're good at it, and if you have a good leader they will take your feedback well and adjust
DaddyGray69 3 points 1y ago
Being a shift isn't about task work, it's about leadership and guidance. I lead better when I'm a part of the plays that I run. 90% of shift tasks are able to be delegated. My baristas would much rather I give them a break from the floor to do a task in the back than for me to disappear for two hours while I do all my stuff. Now If your shift isn't doing anything else to help, that's a different problem altogether, but delegating easy tasks if a great way for a shift to stay present on his/her floor and identify problems as they happen instead of ten minutes later when a barista finds them to tell them.

Been with Starbucks for 8 years and worked officially in three different stores, covered numerous shifts in over a dozen others.

I've never seen this as a supervisor or above task. That said, I have a partner at my store who loves putting away the order so I let him.l do it most the time and just because you're scheduled as non coverage for the order doesn't mean you're the only one able to do it. Just have an open Convo with your leaders and let them know it's really hard on you to solo it and maybe they can have you work on it for a couple hours then switch positions with someone or do some investigating and find someone who likes putting it away.
DaddyGray69 4 points 1y ago
Sounds like your shift is delegating which they're encouraged to do. If you have a problem doing certain tasks that are delegated to you, maybe let the shift know and they can find someone else more eager to do it.
coldcatsoup 0 points 1y ago
I know long ago it was a shift’s role because they were unloading pastries and doing the official count. In fact the supervisor who was doing the pastry and shipment is leaving so it’s fallen to me. This is the first time I’ve ever witnessed a Barista doing these two tasks. It’s not that I mind doing it but one person doing the entire pastry shipment/ count and the truck is IMO awful. A second person to help organize would be super helpful.
DaddyGray69 2 points 1y ago
I mean I did both before I got promoted, it's not that big of a deal. I've got a decent volume store too, so our large order takes up our entire hallway.
coldcatsoup 1 points 1y ago
After driving home and thinking about it I just think the amount that we receive (we are high volume as well) is just overwhelming and I always try to be an overachiever and try to do my best. So I just push myself too hard and really get to physically hurting. I’m gonna reach out to my ASM about needing help. Maybe training someone to help alleviate some of the stress on my mind and back.
Either_Reply_133 4 points 1y ago
at our store it is never a supervisor that does it, but different baristas take turns every week similar to how clean play is not done by the same barista every week. maybe ask if you could be rotated so it’s not always being put on you?
coldcatsoup -1 points 1y ago
Good idea
ourgodwhofucks 3 points 1y ago
i’m scheduled to put away all orders (except for one on my day off) every week & im a barista! my manager spoke to me about it beforehand though, to ask if i was willing to do it. i love it because i get so much time off the floor, but i would definitely talk to your sm if you don’t enjoy putting it away!
drinkliquidclocks 2 points 1y ago
I work at a licensed store as a shift lead, every job I've had as a lead involved doing trucks and orders.

However, if you're just a regular barista, that seems like not your job at all
Jena876543 2 points 1y ago
That’s fair only the pull is an ssv job the order can be put away by anyone from my experience it means they either trust you or think they are taking advantage of you so their is that
miniinovaa 2 points 1y ago
We’ve had baristas do it, it is the SSVs job to make sure it gets done, but not necessarily they do it themselves. This is just from my experience idk if there’s an official rule on it or not
nickintheback08 2 points 1y ago
From what I’ve seen it’s more of a focus from management to have their SSV’s on the floor and spending less time in the back where they can’t see what’s happening.
ilholtstilin 1 points 1y ago
Honestly our baristas fight over putting away the weekly order (which is scheduled non-coverage) to get a break from the floor. I’m a shift and I put away the frozen order when I close, but it’s not a difficulty or authority thing—I’m just by far the fastest at doing it.

But as others have said, if it’s not something you want to do all the time (or ever), just have a word with your SM.
BriefDimension 1 points 1y ago
I used to do the weekly order every week and I was only a barista/barista trainer. However only SSVs at my store did the pastry order.
