What shoes do you wear to work? My current shoes are already falling apart after only about six months. I’ve been looking at work Doc Martens but I don’t know if it’s worth spending the money on. Should I invest in nicer shoes? Or are there cheap alternatives?
vroommmmmmm84 points1y ago
do not. i repeat do not get docs. especially new ones that havnt been broken it yet for work. you might die

hailvy7 points1y ago
They have slip resistant now but it’s more expensive. But my docs were broken in before work and they’re so comfy. I wear them every day
Honey_girl_3 points1y ago
I broke in my nonslip docs by bringing a pair of sneakers with me on my shift and trading over when they hurt my feet. I can wear them for a full shift now & they don’t bother me. I have the Chelsea style & they’re super easy to clean off since they don’t have laces.
LilacFlores61 points1y ago
I know if you really need a good affordable pair, Starbucks baristas get a discount at sketchers. They have some nice work shoes.
richayy4208 points1y ago
Wait how? I’ve actually been needing running shoes!
LilacFlores7 points1y ago
Here is the webpage to find the discounts for all retailers that starbucks partners get:$1
This is the page detailing what shoes you can get since it does not apply to all shoes sketchers has: $1
uwumoment2 points1y ago
i have a really good pair of sketchers that i wear to work, look up their line of specifically made work shoes, they’re non slip and super comfortable
titsofthecaca22 points1y ago
Walmart has a nice selection of cheaper, non-slip shoes. Personally I did this so I would cycle through shoes so they didn't get all stanky.
mern_6 points1y ago
Came here to say this! I got a pair of slip on kitchen safe shoes from Walmart, they look just like vans but are actually comfy to be in all day. They were $20. I’m a 191 and have blown through docs and countless other brands of shoes and so far these ones haven’t fallen apart. I’ve had them maybe 6 months now
Sacred_succotash1 points1y ago
I got a pair of Walmart non slip and they ruined my feet again. HOWEVER I have plantar fasciitis (good for it). I think they would be great if you don’t have foot issues or sensitive feet. Just wish they would’ve worked for me. But they were cheap. So there’s that.
ourgodwhofucks15 points1y ago
i used to wear docs to work all the time and they killed my feet. i wore them again today for a 5 hour shift & my feet are still hurting after being off for 4 hours ): i got some $30 nonslip kitchen shoes from walmart though and they’ve been great!
edit: also highly recommend danskos! a bit pricey for new ones but easy to find them in thrift stores (:
dstnygn3 points1y ago
wait is it not normal for my feet to hurt for several hours after work?
clumsycalico3 points1y ago
I had the opposite experience. I had to use Walmart nonslips for years and finally splurged on some docs and my foot pain vanished. To each their own though not trying to say you’re wrong or anything :)
Pizzadogeminer9 points1y ago
I have a pair of new balance non slip 623. They are quite comfortable. I think it's better to invest in a good pair of shoes rather than have recurring issues and docs will last.
mean-shrimp8 points1y ago
Crocs LiteRide Pacers! They are so comfy and easy to clean bc they are rubber like crocs!
k8mitchy6 points1y ago
I’ve been wearing the same pair of vans for a year now and they’re still goin strong

i love wearing my docs! they're so comfortable to wear all day,,
losteyesee4 points1y ago
Get u some black af1s
Vivid-Cheetah-76933 points1y ago
my air forces are the most comfortable shoe i’ve ever worn, i wear them every day for hours on end. one ssv told me they weren’t supposed to be white shoes so you could invest in the black air forces. i bought new doc martens and made the mistake of not breaking them in before i wore them to work. had blisters on my ankles for a few days but now that’s normally the only shoe i wear to work!
edit: depending on how strict you guys follow dress code, white air forces work. most of my ssvs and even my sm don’t care.
Deep-Device-35993 points1y ago
Vans classic
Own_Ad842 points1y ago
I wear my doc martens 1460 for 8 months now, and i'm in love. my feet aren't tired or aching after 8 hours, and if i clean them weekly/ every other week they stay really nice! i highly recommend them. but.. wear them in firstly
jmsmorris2 points1y ago
Me, and pretty much my entire store, are on team Blundstone. They’re on the pricey side, but they’re super comfortable and last forever.
ThankfulWonderful1 points1y ago
I have had this pair of Blundstones since 2011. They really do last forever. Still super comfortable even though the tread is completely worn away
Roarkshop2 points1y ago
Danskos! They make shoes for nurses and they past forever. They're pricy but worth it they have saved both my feet and my back.
Impatientone932 points1y ago
I found the brand Alegria they make a lot of different styles but they have supported inserts that nurses recommend they also only bend where they are supposed to and don’t let your foot move a bunch
Emotional_Laugh_3222 points1y ago
I invested in a pair of Snubs, they aren’t the most fashion forward shoe but I literally had boiling hot water spill on my foot today and had no idea. I definitely also recommend getting more comfortable inserts for them. They’re also super nonslip and I’ve had them for just over a year now!
hailo2022 points1y ago
I only wear Docs and Van's 😁 Break them in before work for sure. But they're awesome.
swansin2 points1y ago
Filas are so comfy! Cheap-er, non-slip, and look cute
plushiequeenaspen2 points1y ago
I used sketchers for years. They have waterproof work shoes that meet the requirements, are less expensive than some other options, and mine were pretty comfortable.
sweatshirtsweatpants1 points1y ago
“Shoes for crews”. Affordable & slip resistant.
meloscav1 points1y ago
Walmart slip resistant work shoes
BookDragon19961 points1y ago
Doc Martin's are good I also do the Walmart tred safe you could also do the sketcher brand since we get a discount
deathnapsnicecream1 points1y ago
I got a pair of sketchers with the starbucks code we have and within a week my feet hurt so bad that i came home crying every day so be careful picking a pair out of you decide to go that route

i love my nonslip work sneakers from walmart! theyre cheap and they've actually lasted me a while
ThankfulWonderful1 points1y ago
I invest in Dansko clogs because I choose the ones that are non slip and they’re waterproof. They’re unbelievably comfortable and last for years. My current pair is starting to get trashy looking but they’re still functional and very comfortable after two full years of 40+ hour a week wear. I usually do 35-45 miles of walking a week in my high volume DT
It’s an investment, about $135 a pair. But they’re so worth the cash because of how well they hold up over time, how sturdy they are, the great nonslip and protection from hot coffee.
Only complaint is they’re great 99% of the time. But 1% of the time, I loose my footing and get totally thrown off and have fallen into the counter like a cartoon. Legs just slip out from under me, I’ve even thrown the clogs off my feet from one of these 1% falls! Bc they’re supposed to be loose enough to kick off, if I’ve fallen then the shoes pop off hahah

chinksauces1 points1y ago
I have them croc shoes that look like sneakers. I wouldn’t recommend cus hot water and oil doesn’t feel good on the feet. 😞
rosebudftw1 points1y ago
Just bought myself docs docs w steel toes luv them
kookubo1 points1y ago
I’ve had a black pair of waterproof nikes for 4 years, my feet have never hurt and they were only $50!
Kaylushhh1 points1y ago
I switch between Hightop Vans or Crocs. I cannot wear Crocs everyday. My feet would forever reek.
artemishasfallen1 points1y ago
so i used to use vans and they’re kinda busted now. i do use the doc martens jadons which i love, but they’re definitely overkill and a little pricey. they’ve yet to get dirty and they’re really good at not slipping. however, it might be better to get more cheap shoes?
vrxmya1 points1y ago
I wear Hoka Bondi slip resistant shoes, they're so comfy but a bit pricey - I got them on discount
official_koda_1 points1y ago
Adidas cloudfoam shoes are the most comfortable ive ever worn. I never have foot pain unlike other shoes I’ve worn to work. They’re about $50 I think. I’ve worn my pair for about 2 years and they’re still holding up.
biscuit10331 points1y ago
I always get the Nike Flex shoes. They are pretty nonslip and they usually have an all black option so they look like work shoes! And they are sooo comfortable and last for about a year for me.
himbovibes1 points1y ago
They look clunky but Orthofeet give the best support hands down
ocarina_of_cats1 points1y ago
I have the slip resistant chelsea style doc martens and I think they’re really comfortable if you’re willing to spend the extra money! I use them for work and school (culinary major) and they keep my feet comfy all day. Plus it’s nice to just be able to slip on your shoes and not have to worry about tying them.
-beam-me-up-1 points1y ago
Amazon sketchers work shoes, look like black converse and are the best work shoes I've had at the bux. They've taken the least amount of time to fall apart
GrandpaCody1 points1y ago
When I worked there I bought some broken in cheap 1460 docs off Poshmark and I also bought a brand new pair of these the same year I quit $1
GrandpaCody1 points1y ago
Before that I had the same pair from my first job from shoes for crews that weren’t terrible and they lasted me a good 5-6 years that I had them
Piper_riley271 points1y ago
Docs are amazing but the break in process absolutely sucks for sure
WallyBBunny1 points1y ago
My husband bought me some vegan Docs for work and they are perfect. I also have the insoles that DM sells and together they have been the best work shoes I have ever had honestly.
iluvchoccymilk1 points1y ago
I found it to be out of my budget to spend money on a new pair of black leather, even faux leather shoes just for work, so I ended up going to goodwill and was able to find decent pair of fake leather shoes for like $12 and so far they’re holding up well!
Yunggarbagecat1 points1y ago
i have a pair of work doc martens they are expensive but have lasted me way longer than any other pair of work shoes i own… they are a lot harder to break in due to them being leather but once they’re broken in they’re very comfortable for 8 hours of being on your feet. i very much recommend them. they are more on the expensive side of course but they will last a lifetime.
sero50741 points1y ago
I got some knock off docs at walmart and they are great, my feet don’t hurt at all working in them. If u get actual docs break them in before wearing them to work. U could also try runners like adidas or nike or any knock off brand with thick, cushioned insoles. Edit: i also wear adidas and vans and my feet are fine 🤷
Kayp222961 points1y ago
Dr scholl’s mens slip resistant slip ons. They’re amazing
MinimumSelection51331 points1y ago
shoesforcrews! they have a lot of choices but i got the everlight model, it’s so light weight and comfy :)
RaptorClaw271 points1y ago
I wore docs for several years but they weren't worth forgoing nonslip soles. I have a pair of shoes for crews boots now that are nonslip and they're actually more comfortable than my docs were.
FishtailStorm011 points1y ago
I’ve had my non slip off brand converse from Walmart for three years now and I love them, they kill. ($30)
Metalturds1 points1y ago
I wore the same pair of timberlands for 3 years at Starbucks. I got one that is face grain leather so I could clean them. They are around 150 but we'll worth it. I usually go though 4 pairs of regular shoes a year.
unsatisfied_plant1 points1y ago
I literally got the slip on docs with slip resistant bottoms, and I have never had a problem with them. They’re so comfy, and have lasted almost two years, versus having to purchase new non-slips every 6 months. It’s truly an investment.
GoddessDivine001 points1y ago
I splurged on slip resistant docs specifically for working at starbucks, once they get broken in they are a dream to wear. I wear them most days now even if im not working because they’re so comfy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
slugtrot1 points1y ago
i got a pair of van's made for the makers (i think that's what they're called) for like $30 and they're pretty good
shxtfxced1 points1y ago
air forces are good ones - i wear my doc martens tho
jillsmadness981 points1y ago
White converse lmao
gabby246811 points1y ago
I do Crocs bistro non slips. Non slip lasted a year but the shoes are still fine otherwise
dallizzlee1 points1y ago
My docs are absolutely incredible. I wore sketchers for a couple of months while I saved up tips for the doc marten chelsea work boots. It took me maybe two days to break them in, it was so fast. My feet, my back, and my knees are singing in the docs, I wanted to die in my sketchers
bigghostb00ty1 points1y ago
I got some boots for about $70 from shoes for crews, they’re non slip and protect my feet from the various dangers at work… I wore my last pair every day for over a year (including trudging through feet of snow and sub zero temps) and I JUST replaced them. Well worth the money and I really really love them. They do afterpay as well so you don’t have to pay it all up front and they also have sales/coupons all the time.
marsmakesart1 points1y ago
work crocs :) comfy, durable, and easy to clean!
drinkliquidclocks1 points1y ago
Sketchers gang. Why anyone would choose to wear docs to work is beyond me, do you hate yourself? Lol
daisy-trbl1 points1y ago
if you do decide to get docs dont wear then to work without having broken them in or you will be in pain. also insoles are a great option for any shoe you choose to get. ive also heard good thing about walmart boots
fcknhippies1 points1y ago
Nike air maxes for me
WrensPotion1 points1y ago
I have the work docs! they have padding and stuff on the inside plus the non slip and after a year of working they’re the most comfortable shoes I own.
However! They’re *only* my work shoes. While I do clean them regularly and try not to kick stuff, they have quite a bit of damage at the toes. I’d say go for it but don’t expect them to stay nice.
loseyourkey1 points1y ago
ok i know other ppl are saying no docs but i bought a used pair for cheap and they have been serving me well! i wouldn't buy a new pair just for work. they were comfy bc they were already broken in, and much more slip resistant than i thought they would be.
Crashwaves1 points1y ago
I used 6pm.com and got a cheap pair of vans
Emotional_Wasabi21191 points1y ago
Work crocs!!!! You’re feet will be in heaven!! And super easy to clean I never clean mine tho lol
haydensidun1 points1y ago
I wear Nike sneakers and my feet never hurt
Tearsofthe_Lynx1 points1y ago
honestly, my work Crocs are my best friend. clean easily and super comfortable. closed toe too (:
bottlehalffull1 points1y ago
Vans Old Skools in all black. My feet hate anything else. I just ordered a new pair yesterday, but my current ones just started falling apart after 2 years.
bottlehalffull1 points1y ago
They are $90, but they take Klarna so you can space payments out for each paycheck. They last forever so in my opinion it's worth it. https://www.vans.com/shop/made-for-the-makers-20-old-skool-uc-vn:0a3muu:0bb:085:m:1:

Kloggs!

I use sketchers slip resistant shoes and they are great! Very comfy and I don't have to worry about ruining them :).
FfierceLaw1 points1y ago
Dansko LT Pros! They feel like they propel me when I walk and my feet never hurt
Jena8765431 points1y ago
I have always worn tennis shoes as long as their close toed I have never had an ssv or sm complain
nickintheback081 points1y ago
I went Skechers a couple months ago and I wish I did it much sooner.
whatisprofound0 points1y ago
I'd recommend going to a running store and getting fitted for a pair of running sneaks. Then... ask if they have the last seasons model. This usually runs me about 80 bucks, but they last and I can do long shifts with little to no pain afterward. Usually they are dark enough to be in dress code, and I'd (SSV) never call a barista on shoes that were mostly in dress code as long as they are safe.
apple_low0 points1y ago
I know everyone is different and my docs were brand new but gods were my feet dying when I wore my new docs. I came home like do my feet usually hurt like this at work?? So I put my usual skechers on as soon as I got home and nooo my beat up old skechers definitely were sooo sooo much more supportive/comforting for my feet. But again!! My docs were brand new (it was my second day wearing em) and I wore my skechers for like two school years w/ marching band and tennis + I've been two years out of high school.
frogboicentral-1 points1y ago
I wear converse, which hold up really well. I am basically waterskiing every shift though, so…
