If you’re sick, you’re sick. You don’t need to get permission, divulge unnecessary details, or find coverage to call out sick.
You also should have built up a (tiny) bit of sick time to use to cover some of hours you missed. Write it in the punch communication logbook when you are back.

Yeah, I guess. I'm just the type of person who HATES calling in, and it makes me feel SO bad for everyone that it's going to put more work on. I know I can't help being sick, and I definitely don't want to spread this crap to anyone, but I keep feeling like maybe I should've just went in anyways and helped with CS all day or something. With me running a fever though, they probably would've just told me to go home I guess.

Don't feel bad. I transferred to a new store, got sick and threw up my first day there. Had to call out my second and third days because of it. Not a great first impression lol but it happens. You shouldn't get in trouble for that.

Lol easier said than done. I always feel bad about things like this. I hate calling in, and I hate that it always makes me feel unreliable. I know I can't help getting sick, especially having children who are in school, but it still makes me feel unreliable to call in because of it, or anything else. Calling in today literally made me feel so bad that I cried. I know it's stupid, but that's just how it made me feel. I went to the store today and got a bunch of that immune-c stuff and some cold eeze so that I can hopefully actually work my shift on Sunday.

Well, then think of it like this. If you hadn’t called out, you probably would’ve spread it to a few of your coworkers, who would then need to call out and leave the store even MORE short-staffed than they would’ve been because you called out.

You made the right call. You will actually need to be isolated due to your symptoms. Working while sick is now considered a terminable offense. If you’re ever unsure you can find the covid coach here: https://sbpcc.custhelp.com/app/C19_decision

Thanks. That makes me feel a lot better about calling in, definitely don't want to lose my job. The doctor did say to stay isolated while running a fever, but that it was okay to be around people and go to school/work if there was no fever. Since it's just a viral infection, and not COVID, no quarantine or isolation after I'm fever free for 24 hours. My symptoms are just exacerbated because I also have underlying medical conditions that always make viral illnesses worse than normal for me.

Starbucks policy will still require you to isolate the full ten days unfortunately. The only way to be released early would be a doctors note.

If your sick your sick they can’t force you to go in or get a dr note. It’s only an issues if an obvious trend developes then your SM can start require dr notes etc.

Well, this is my first time calling in, and I definitely will not be making it a habit, I didn't even want to call in this time even though I feel horrible. My ssv literally didn't say anything to me this morning except "why" after I told her I couldn't make it in, and then "okay" after I told her I was sick with a fever and would be back in for my next shift. I figured that she would have definitely told me at that time whether I would need a doctor's note to return to work, and since she didn't, I assumed that it wasn't necessary.

If you are ever nervous about policy especially something like this call partner resources and they will clear up the policy for you

I’m rehired and doing my food safety training for shift. It’s best if you take those steps. The scenario in the training is about a customer who’s husband got cancer and they aren’t allowed to go anywhere and the importance of not coming in sick etc. etc. I never considered it like that but it’s best to stay home. Especially during these times. Based on your symptoms you’re on the “excluded” list for working. You could get a safety net and get a doctors note just for records
