Please charge people correctly!! (Venti Rant)(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Almond36
I’ve seen people saying that if someone asks for shots of espresso with milk to the top, they’ll just fill it up because it doesn’t make a difference to them and Starbucks overcharges anyway. While I agree, this is why we get angry customers saying “the other Starbucks does it”.
Today my SSV and I were cussed out by a man who wanted a Venti Hot Quad Latte with 6 pumps pumpkin charged as a Quad Espresso in a Venti hot cup with 6 pumps pumpkin and milk to the top. We tried giving him the drink he ordered with cold milk (he did not specify steamed just in a hot cup) for the price he wanted ($4.55) but my SSV said if he wanted the milk steamed we had to charge as a latte. Almost $3 difference in price which of course makes no difference in my pay, but with my SSV insisting I charge him properly there’s nothing I can do. (And I had no desire to help him out because he was aggressive from the start.) I tried explaining it to him calmly but he demanded a refund and told us to “go fuck ourselves”. Starbucks is overpriced, I agree, but I don’t make the prices and if you don’t want to pay then go somewhere else to get your coffee. Don’t yell at a minimum wage employee because your “hack” didn’t work.
I am at my store 5 days a week always in the morning and have never seen him before so I don’t know where they are charging him $4.55 for this, but please charge people correctly to avoid becoming the “other Starbucks”.

Also, with the new automated ordering system, doesn’t this effect it? Isn’t it one of the reasons stores run out of milk so quickly?

Automated ordering hasn’t taken over the milk yet, at least in my region. It’s just food at the moment. Whoever is placing your order is likely under ordering.

Depends on your location. Automation has taken over stores in my district.

Honestly I’m ready for it to take over milk in my area. I *hate* trying to figure out how much milk we are going to use. At least then if we run out I can blame someone else.

Facts!! I used to not care (or neutral) bc I hadn't experienced it yet. But today, gosh, and I had to actually interact with the customer too. It was like "so. . . . you want this iced triple espresso in a venti cup and you want me to fill the rest of the cup with /extra/ salted caramel cold foam and then caramel drizzle . . . ." I didn't want to bother and honestly I didn't know what to do about it to begin with. I just handed it to her and told her this isn't really protocol and some Starbucks wouldn't let her do that.

I def agree! I got cussed out today bc a regular got mad that I wouldnt do his hot cappuccino refill as an iced coffee so that it was free. Likeeeee cappuccinos don’t get refills. He was like everywhere else I go they do this. He always tries to pull stuff similar to that. Gets venti fraps and says he wants it split into 2 talls each with wc and driz. Or asks for 2-3 refills when he only got one drink. He gets mad if we decline and I’m one of the only ones at my store who puts my foot down and won’t do it bc he yells at us for minutes until realizing he isn’t getting it. Ps if we decline at the reg, he says ok then yells at the bar person for not making it the way he asked for it at the reg, saying every other Starbucks does this for me

The thing that bothers me about the whole "starbucks is a big corporation, just do it for them to keep them from yelling at you" attitude is that it's not fair for the polite, understanding customers who accept our rules with no fuss. Something doesn't sit right with me about rewarding a man-child who wants a cheap latte but essentially punishing the customers who behave like mature adults.

Oml we used to have this regular who would order two venti caramel crunch frappuccinos with shots instead of frap roast and extra ice. Obviously there’d be extra frappuccino left so he’d get two talls or two grandes but my store manager and one of our shifts wouldn’t give him the excesses (but tbh everybody else did) & sometimes he’d get to the window all annoyed and say “and can you make sure i get the extra) so after a while he stopped coming to our location, 🥴
