We have real recycling, but none of what the customers have access to ever goes into it. It's always completely contaminated by nonrecyclable things. The ones only we have access to and our cardboard really go into our recycling bin.

Problem is customers won't separate their trash and recycling. They throw both types in both cans. I only had one store with separate bins, and everything customer facing had to just go in the trash because none of us got paid enough to sort it ourselves.

Milk jugs and cardboard got recycled though, which is better that nothing at least.

It's a little of column A and a little of column B.

The problem with recycling is that every city does it differently. Some places won't take straws, for example, because they weigh too little to be caught properly by the machines. And this is even assuming recycling "rules" are followed properly by both employees and customers.

It's a mess. So Starbucks bragging about it is mostly PR

I laugh when I found out about certain things about starbucks. I know all the starbucks I have worked for have legitimate done so. I took those out to the blue bin, made sure they went into those.

Wish we had a recyclable dumpster :(

I wish we had recycling bins or even compost at the counters. I am a huge sustainability fan and that was one thing that piqued my interest when I applied. But we do not have recycling bins. So thrusting milk jugs into the trash saddens me. We do have recycling in the back which we use. And the amount of waste that we go through at our store breaks my heart. I thought this company was big on sustainability…
