I’m starting at my store next week and was hoping for some tips to calm the anxiety lol I had a customer service job before so I’m not worried about learning POS or anything technology related, but how long did it take you guys to learn all the drinks? I go to Starbucks almost everyday but mostly get teas so I’m really new to any of the hot drinks. Tips are greatly appreciated ❤️

I recently finished training so I’m not a pro by any means, but I relate. I was definitely very worried about learning all the drinks too, but it’s actually not that bad! It is a lot, sure, but every type of drink is broken down into basic steps that make them easy to remember. I spent only 4 hours of training with making every drink and I‘ve been pretty confident the two times i’ve been on bar ever since. Most of all, try to be thorough during training and just don’t stress about remembering everything right after you learn it! It comes with reinforcement and muscle memory, and I’ve found that stress seems to make it harder to focus in the moment. You got this!! Good luck!

When working I tend to get stressed and work faster than I should, making easily preventable mistakes. I would recommend that if you get stressed out, work slower and get things done correctly the first time. Also work hard on drink sequencing as it will save you time in the long run. I should also say I’m fairly new and finished the very end of my training last week (plenty of practice shifts lol)

Can you explain was drink sequencing is? I start next week so I’m a complete newbie who doesn’t know any terms

i’m not op, but drink sequencing is the ability to make more than one drink at a time in order to promote swift handoffs and customer satisfaction. sbux only wants you to sequence two at a time, but i think i’ve done like 5 drinks before lol. definitely don’t be too ambitious with it if you’re a new hire! you’ll have bar training, and they’ll show you how to sequence hot and cold bar drinks. hope this helped! good luck <3

First I’d say take it easy. No matter what corporate or your team demands of you, you can only do so much. You’re a human and you need time to learn and grow. My store has a pretty toxic environment that demands really high performance from an understaffed team. Even so, we’re incredibly forgiving for new partners. You’re learning and you can’t be expected to know everything right at tue start. Nobody is expecting you to.
I’d say you’ve got about a month learning curve where you’re really going to suck at at least some of this job. That’s okay!! There is no human way that you could learn all of this information faster. Take your time, move at your pace, and ask questions! Every partner I know would rather you ask a question than royally fuck up a drink and have to remake it.
I also suggest you ask to be on bar as much as possible while avoiding rushes. Ask to be on bar during closing so you can get used to the layout of it while cleaning and so you can practice drinks in a low intensity environment. You’re never going to get better if you don’t practice. I got thrown into bad during peak in my first month and while it chewed me up and spit me out, I got really good at bar really fast.
Don’t let this take you over either. Don’t let the stress and pressure from those around you crush you. Nothing that happens in a Starbucks is serious enough to give you genuine anxiety. If you can, find an environment and a manager that fosters a healthy environment. You’re going to be okay! Have fun!

It takes a few months to get really comfortable with everything. Try your best and take constructive criticism well. Most partners are a phenomenal help to green beans and don’t be afraid to ask questions if you’re unsure about anything. You can do it! :)
