Things are just getting harder (self.starbucksbaristas)

Hi everyone.

Idk what to do. I think working at starbucks is horrible. We're the busiest location in our district and this past week we've constantly had 2+ borrowed partners on the floor because we don't have enough baristas. It's been hell. And the start of the holiday release has only made things worse. Our work load is so bad that already 3 people have long-term injured themselves from it. (One a barista had to do physical therapy for months, one a shift has ignored it for a long time and will probably be dealing with the repercussions all her life, and the third, our manager *had to get hand surgery*

My career goals are in the art industry but my body hurts and lately when I try to draw it just causes pain in my already sore wrists.

I desperately want to quit after how bad it's been but need the trans supportive healthcare. Starbucks is helping cover a lot of extra expenses like Electrolysis that most healthcare plans ignore, and without the trans-positive healthcare I don't think I'll survive. But at the same time this job is killing me, and my manager has said that he will not approve any transfers because of our situation, and to "talk to him again in 6 months"

What do I do?

Okay, first: I'm so sorry that you're going through this. That is awful.

Advice: volunteer for positions off bar, it'll help your hands and wrists. (Customer support cycle, Reg, dto/r if your a drive through, even warming.) Stay away from those pumps.

Keep up on the stretches/prehab for artists. Wrist spins every day. Finger pulls, all that jazz. Be extra about it.

Look for a new job. Yes, Starbs has reasonable health coverage, but they are NOT the only ones that'll cover the "aesthetic" procedures some policies don't cover. Update that resume, fix up a LinkedIn, and start asking questions.

You're worth having safety and happiness in life.

i just came back and it’s so bad at my location i moved to also. i hate that it’s normalized how one person does the work of three and our sm expects that..
