Shift leader's decision caused me to have to wait outside for three hours after clising.(self.starbucksbaristas)

Update: reported incident to store management asking for the shift lead to be written up, will be calling corporate, had to find a replacement for my shift today as I now have a fever
Because my update post featured a retaliatory comment, disclosing employee personal information, presumably posted by the shift lead in question I feel the need to update this with a clarification. The shift lead did allow me to call my spouse, when they could not bring my spare keys because they were also working a closing shift I asked to call AAA. At that point I was denied. I left it out of this post because I wanted the post to be concise. I had included it in my report to the ethics hotline and my report to the SM and DM.
I locked my keys in my car while coming back from break. Our shift lead told me I couldn't call AAA till after my shift because I was back on the clock. My shift ended at 7:30 pm. For those of you that have needed road side assistance you know it can be a while for a truck to come through. Road side assistance came at 12:10 am. I spent 2 hours in the lobby and 2 and a half hours waiting in an empty, dark parking lot for my car to be unlocked. I am currently fighting a bacterial throat infection and sitting out in the cold made it worse. I wouldn't have had such a long wait if I was allowed to call when I asked as wait times for triple A get longer the later it gets. I feel incredibly disrespected by my management. It honestly makes me consider quiting. What course if action can I take to make this right?

After not letting you call, they should have stayed with you until they got there to make sure you were safe. That is completely unacceptable. Even if they did let you call when you came back from break, they should have waited with you regardless. I’m so sorry that happened.

Don't work at Starbucks but I'm a restaurant manager: I don't care how busy we are, I take care of my team first. If our ticket times go up because someone had to leave due to family emergency or whatever, their duties become my duties and it's my job to make up the lost effort. It fosters a better work environment to let people take the time they need to take care of their lives outside of work rather than forcing an employee who is only putting in 50% effort to work when they are concerned about whatever is going on in their lives. Obviously I don't let people take advantage of me if I can, I'm pretty good at reading people, but that kind of selfish behavior is why you should quit. People don't quit companies, they quit bosses.

Your shift has major control issues. Imagine thinking Starbucks comes before real life problems

Also that's dangerous to be out there alone after closing. Perfect opportunity for someone to rob or kidnap you.

I’m begging you to email HR or at the very least tell your SM/DM. My wallet was stolen out of my car and I didn’t notice until my 30 mins break at work. I went inside and told my shift that I need time to call and cancel the three cards that were stolen. He said okay 👍🏼
Your shift should have stayed with you. Update us on what you do!!

Take your next few shifts off under the guise of throat infection, tell your Manager that the Shift Runner had made it so you had to stay alone in the dark outside for 2 and a half hours and that made your throat much worse, name them.
Take it up with Partner Help and do your best to report that Shift specifically.

My coworker literally just did the same thing but it was before her shift and our shift leader still let her clock in and call during her shift

If they left you alone at night they can actually get in big trouble for that. Shifts are NOT supposed to leave until we make sure everyone is gone.

I can't imagine doing that to one of my baristas. Some people are just terrible.

There are too many shift supervisors that should never have been promoted.

A shift lead can make common sense exceptions to things like no personal calls on the clock, JFC. Obviously, in an emergency you can make or take a call; we aren’t landing rovers on Mars, it’s just coffee and life happens.
Leaving you alone outside is very not ok either, that’s dangerous and put you in physical risk, as well as the company at risk legally.
You’re given a key as a lead because it’s assumed you can make decisions in the best interest of the company, staff, and customers in the moment.
You need to speak to a manager about this incident. Sit down and write it out the event with as many details as possible too.

I would be so pissed to hear one of my SSVs did this to someone. They should have let you call AAA Immediately

Wtf? What is up with shifts who don’t put their partners first?!?! They couldn’t cover you while you ran to the back to call AAA?? They should be coached on treating partners the proper way, I’m sorry.
