No sleeves?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by miguelb1
One of my coworkers told me we no longer have to put sleeves on drinks?? That sounds very incorrect and he says it’s new policy?
RareLingonberry 150 points 1y ago
New policy is no sleeves on tall or grande unless they are hot water based (hot tea or americano). Sleeves still go on ventis by default. Otherwise customers have to ask for sleeves. I think the policy is dumb because every customer asks for a sleeve so at my store we started putting sleeves on all hot drinks again.

What do they expect to achieve by instructing us to stop putting sleeves on drinks ..? I’m like a Starbucks robot now and auto-sleeve everything

Doesn't seem safe to serve a hot beverage without a sleeve
PeachGreenTea__ 44 points 1y ago
The new standard is sleeves on all hot water based drinks and Venti’s.
Vegetable-Rain7652 36 points 1y ago
Fuck that, I’m still sleeving everything. I tried following that for one day and had constant interruptions from people asking for sleeves.
Accurate-Bumblebee14 34 points 1y ago
The standard according to the Beverage Resource Manual has ALWAYS been, sleeves on all Venti, sleeves on all brewed coffee and teas, including tea lattes, sleeves on all Americanos, and sleeves on all extra hot beverages. Shorts get double cupped under these standards. None of this is new. And of course sleeves anytime a customer requests one

I was a barista from 2009-2013 in WA and I just want to say that what you just stated was what I was taught as the standard even back then. I can still remember because it was drilled into me so effectively.

Thank you!

Idk where you are but in America it’s a new policy to not out sleeves on tall or grande cups depending on the drink

It was just published in a weekly update, and no store has taught it before. In fact it was pointed out in training that Canada is different and didn’t use sleeves 🤨 I don’t appreciate the rudeness

Edit: spelling

It’s hard because they want us to connect with customers. But instead of connecting with them I have to get through asking them if they need a sleeve, stopper or straw before I can even ask them how their day is going. All of this through a mask and plexiglass shield.
kqs13 12 points 1y ago
We just do sleeves anyway
Grouchy_Arugula7257 9 points 1y ago
Sleeves on all Ventis, and then water based drinks (Americanos and Chais for example).
My store has run out though so we were double cupping the other day
dfarner 9 points 1y ago
When I started in Feb last year, this was already the policy. I remember it in a training module. Does it go back and forth?
iwantmysharpieback 15 points 1y ago
This is not new. Every once in a while they repost it to the announcements because we stop following it.
[deleted] 4 points 1y ago
Water based and Venti drinks get sleeves. Teas get double cupped.

We’re supposed to ask if they want a sleeve. Usually they say yes but I’ve had a few say no
Accurate-Bumblebee14 6 points 1y ago
A double cup is not the standard.
jelizt 4 points 1y ago
Wait double cup isn’t standard for teas?
Accurate-Bumblebee14 2 points 1y ago
Nope. Double cup is not a standard for teas. A sleeve is standard on all teas and tea lattes.
Mayachees 3 points 1y ago
It’s always been the policy, but nobody followed it because 4 out of 5 customers getting grande and tall lattes will ask for a sleeve. So it became easier to sleeve the cups for every drink. Because it would take extra time to go back and sleeve it when you are working on something else.

This seems like kinda absurd penny pinching, honestly. Everyone at my store asks for a sleeve minus one regular on average. Same with straws. I default to offering people straws no matter what because 9 times out of 10 if I don't have a straw, in hand, offering it to them I get a very snappy "Can I have a straw??"

This new policy makes no sense, why the fuck would they do that 😭 and it's so specific??
Very-_-Disappointing 1 points 1y ago
That’s basically the policy, yes. Sleeves are default on Ventis, extra hot drinks, and any one made with hot water (brewed coffee, brewed teas, and americanos, maybe chais and mistos?). Definitely ask your store manager though what they want. If your store is super high volume and fast-paced, asking every customer about a sleeve or stopper is a waste of time when most will say yes and handing things out without is sure to result in many spills and burns. They’re mostly pushing the sleeves right now because there seems to be a supply issue. Either way definitely check with your boss and just follow their lead on that. I believe it was the last weekly update or the one before that explains it if you want to read it yourself.

Sleeves on hot water beverages and venti’s is the new policy but my store/manager decided to keep putting sleeves on all drinks
Substantial-Hair-170 -4 points 1y ago
Lol every Starbucks is different! From my own store, we have to put the double cup if we run out of sleeve
Gameb0i6 -2 points 1y ago
That’s not true. Don’t believe them.
