when i started i had multiple nervous break downs bc i felt like i wasnt doing enough (which was stupid bc i just started 💀) but my coworkers comforted me, gave me time to recollect myself and reassured me i didnt have to be perfect, so trust me when i say, u dont need to be 100% all the time, its okay to be anxious and take all the time u need. much love homie<3

Thanks! I’m more worried about not being able to meet expectations, especially because my latte art *sucks*! I’ve never had training how to make it since I was only serving coffee in takeaway cups. I’m hoping that my trainer is a patient person…

Honestly latte art at Starbucks does. Not. Matter. Trust me. You’ll be lucky if there is hardly any time to even think about latte art. Some people practice it or do it if they want to, but it’s not a requirement. 99% of your orders are in disposable cups with lids anyways (well probably 100% of them now since Covid, I don’t think they do for here cups currently) so people would never see it even if you did do it. Latte art will be the least of your training worries. Just take it slow and it will all take time to get the hang of.

Thanks! It’s because in my old job the managers would rate your performance and if your latte art wasn’t good enough you’d have your points deducted. I’ll be chill about it then.

Ya I think more people do it just for fun or to practice. But it’s not an expectation to know or to do there. On a daily basis there’s just no time to make the drinks look extra pretty too. Lol you’ll do great! It can be overwhelming but just remember that it’s only coffee! Lol

i promise that majority of ppl at my store including myself totally suck at latte art, its not a huge thing that u need to know how to do or have to learn, its more so optional! since we get busy a lot, theres not really time to learn latte art so its gonna be an optional thing for anybody, i have a coworker who loves coffee and teaches us how to do latte art but its not a need, we have only been serving coffee in the takeaway cups as well anyways lol <33

Thanks! That’s reassuring. My previous place demanded I do latte art even in cups “just in case customer looks at it” which was total BS. Was there anything that surprised you when you started? Thank you so much for your insight.

honestly i see a lot of ppl on the starbies reddits say that their store sucks but mine doesnt, i love all my coworkers and everybody meshes so well that there isnt any drama, everybody was kind and i really hope the same happens for you, ive made a best friend with one of my coworkers and i wouldnt have it any other way. i cant say i was surprised in any ways that would be considered bad, but just be mindful the rushes can and do get bad sometimes, but when u and ur coworkers are like a little family, it makes it better. just remember to always be kind when you come in! i try to be a light of positivity for my people whenever things get rough, and usually if im having an off day, they do the same for me. ALSO REMEMBER TO HYDRATE! i cant tell u how many times ive gotten dehydrated working lol 😅

I start my training tomorrow too (different job) and ecstatic to work in a better place! You'll be okay. Don't stress about it. When has stress did any good after all? I wish you the best in the workforce and goodluck with training tomorrow!

Thanks and likewise!

You’ll be fine. It’s just coffee and they know you are new so they just need you to listen and learn and you will get the hang of it. It’s a fun job! Good luck!

Thanks!

I quit my job after one month, my store was overwhelmingly busy. After I got hired, she set my first day at 5:30 am, put me on the floor no training whatsoever. It was total wrecked! Fast forward, after 4 weeks still there no training I just left, the amount of work and paid don’t match at all, I feel like this is at least $17/hr.
Well your first day would be on the computer then some general about the store
Pos system
And then warming
Then making the drinks
It wasn’t so hard
