box cutter recommendations? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by carlokuryo
im always struggling to find something to open new boxes every shift, we only have one pair of scissors and the box cutter that's always been on the desk that I thought was for the staff to share was a partners that she just started keeping on her and taking home lol.

I have been meaning to pick up a box cutter or utility knife but can't seem to find one that I like, because I want something lightweight and easy to open/close :/

what do you guys use and where did you buy them from?

thank yall!!

Honestly, use your name tag. They open boxes so easily and you'll always have it on you. You just might need to touch up your name every once in a while cause it'll rub off using it that way.

smartt ill probably just take some extra blank tags bc our dm is super strict with us always keeping our name tag on

Invest in an oil based paint marker! Sharpie brand has a line of them, I snagged mine from the dollar store near me. I have one with my name and one labeled "knife" I use to open boxes and plastic wrap on the pallets. The marker will not come off unless you use paint thinner, it's great

Could you just tell your manager to order some? They are supposed to be provided for us.

I stole probably 50 from target while I worked there. It wasn’t intentional, but I would stick them in my pocket and just forget to take it back. $1

Those are for if I’m actually breaking down boxes. If you just need to cut the tape, or if opening a mocha or bean box I use my name tag. It works great and doesn’t cut through the packaging and ruin the product.

thank you sm!! i think this is the one i had in my cart actually haha

If you push inward on the box next to the ends of the tape pieces, it separates them enough to allow you to grab the tape-end and rip it off the box easily. I Haven’t needed a cutter or scissors in months. Might work for you

My manager got fed up with us not breaking down boxes, so she ordered every single partner their own box cutter lol. Def ask if they can order more.

ask your store to order some. they can place a store order with the RPO & the store will pay for it

I'll send you some lol I have like 20! Jk, you can have your manager order some for you all!

What? I've never heard of a retail store that doesn't have box cutters. Any one will do, just replace the razor blade when it gets dull

I preferred to have my own because the store ones have a way of ending up all over the store and never handy.

I would suggest something like a Gerber EAB. It’s compact, foldable, and takes the utility blades your store manager should be ordering.

Edit: the store utility knives are always dull/chipped in my experience, because no one changes them out, also another reason I carried my own.

thank you for your suggestion! this is honestly what i was getting at, i wanted a more personal box cutter/ multipurpose tool, especially a little stronger than a name tag or disposable tool :] ty again!

NP. Come check out r/edc if you want to see some options. Other models have things like driver head or bottle opener built-in too. You want a utility knife, the kind that takes those kinds of blades, let the siren pay for those.
