Do you do drinks as they come, or pull out stickers and place them on the cup asap? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’m curious because when folks pull out the stickers and line up the whole bar with cups it really throws me off. But being backed up on tickets is also not good.

If you pull mobile stickers it alerts the customers that their drink is being worked on. You should only be working on 2-3 drinks at a time, and unless they’re a seasoned bar partner i will tell my bar to only pull 2. On the flip side if you’re like me and enjoy a little chaos I pull like 5 stickers at a time and am able to sequence

I’ve never worked at or mobile ordered at a store that notified them when the sticker was pulled.

It’s a new development in the mobile ordering app

I always make drinks as they come. I usually work on 2/3 drinks at a time, and SOMETIMES I will pull the next sticker and stick it on my bar. I don’t enjoy the overwhelming feeling of stickers or cups all over the bar and I don’t like the idea of newer partners mimicking that behavior because it’s easy for them to get lost in the sauce. The only time I pull stickers to cup them asap is when I’m drive bar and making drinks as I hear them. If I don’t pull the sticker fast enough sometimes my cafe bar partner will jump in to help and make drinks I’ve already started.

maybe I’m a psycho but I actually pull all my stickers and line them up when I’m on drive through bar!! it helps me get less overwhelmed knowing what I’m dealing with but all of my coworkers think I’m insane 😅
sailingsky 4 points 1y ago
I do the same, makes making drinks faster. So when you have a latte going, you can make some easy cold bev drinks while the shots are pulling. Or you see two chai tea lattes and can double the milk and get them both done at once
NervosaNervous 2 points 1y ago
I can’t do this personally. To me it clutters the bar space and I get overwhelmed when my bar is cluttered. I’ll pull 3 stickers max if I’m on drive bar, unless there’s a couple drinks I can batch. If I’m on bar 2, I’ll pull 2 max unless we have a dedicated cold bar.

I pull the stickers as I make drinks. Now that mobiles get notified when their stickers are pulled this is even more important, or people will think their stuff is ready ages before you actually get to it.

So I’m curious how the new system works for notifying customers about when mobiles are being made. When I worked at Starbucks our mobiles just printed out as they came in and we’d pull them, but I’m not sure how the customer would be notified when you physically pull a sticker? I’ve also never been notified about my drink being made when I mobile order. Is this just in certain areas for now? Im just curious how it works. Lol
New_Consequence_5184 1 points 1y ago
Supposedly is says the order is "in progress" when the sticker is pulled (or possibly printed?) Since the machines only print one sticker at a time I'm not sure that bit matters. It was also just in the most recent update, so it may not be in effect everywhere.
caligirlthrowaway104 2 points 1y ago
Oh wow so it only prints one mobile ticket at a time and then won’t print the next until the ticket before it has been pulled? Ours used to just spit all the mobiles out as they came in. Haha
New_Consequence_5184 1 points 1y ago
That's crazy! Yeah it only prints one (possibly two) at a time, that's why when you reroute you only have to do the remaining pulled stickers and maybe the one currently in the machine, and everything else gets sent to the other printer (even if the order was placed before the reroute)

I’m a green bean. I just started a little over a month ago. Whenever I am on bar, I only have two drinks going at one time. I don’t like to pull stickers until i’m done with a drink otherwise it messes me up. That was the way I was trained to do it on bar also.
Sirmarchboy22 2 points 1y ago
Standard is only pull 2 to 3 for sequencing and making sure you don't lose drinks
dlcksuck 2 points 1y ago
I typically pull 3-5 and cup them at a time just so I can see what’s there and the best way to sequence them
pikachu_cookie 2 points 1y ago
I’m at a licensed store (no mobiles, no drive through) and the person at the register pulls the stickers and lines up the cups. I kinda like being able to see how many drinks I have to make, and if there’s stuff with cold foam I can do a double batch
Glimmerrss 1 points 1y ago
On cold, I stick four on cups and pull four in queue. Hot bar, each two drinks I finish I pull and put on cups but also put from machine.

I like to pull per order, so if it’s 1 of 1 I just pull one, 5 of 5 I pull all five. idk why but grouping by order helps my brain, also if it’s multiple of the same frappuccinos I can batch.
ryannmm5 1 points 1y ago
i see the sticker, steam the milk, grab the cup&sticker it, pull the shots, pump the syrup&put it under the spout before they actually pull. look at the next sticker, switch the pitchers to steam the milk, pull the shots, pump the syrup, switch cups, finish the first drink, repeat.
my sm got mad at me for pulling the sticker&putting it on the cup, then steaming the milk, pulling shots, pumping syrup, etc.
dallizzlee 1 points 1y ago
I pull all the stickers in one order and put them on cups, and work that way. If my manager is on the floor she pulls all the stickers and cups them and puts them out in order for me, so I feel l should do that too but it overwhelms me when they’re all out.

If I have a cold bar though I do pull all my stickers so I can hand off cold drinks.

I try to never have more than 5 cups out at a time. 3 are on my bar and I’m sequencing, the other two are on standby. This is when I’m solo bar. If I have a partner working the other hot bar, then more cups tend to line up. I hate it mainly because they get in the way, but it can also become overwhelming to see all of the drinks that need to be made. I also don’t like when there’s a line of cups with stickers pulled because the customers are told their drink is being prepared when in fact, it is not. And then they come in (rightfully) annoyed that their drink wasn’t made in time.

My store it's the till persons job to pull stickers. Also depends on the preference of the barista, but the stickers *should* be pulled as soon as they're printed, and the cups lined up. It also helps the barista to see what they've got going on, and the floater to see if the barista needs help!
greener-bean 5 points 1y ago
This is not proper sequencing and will mess up your estimated times for mobile orders
Normal_Human_4567 2 points 1y ago
Idk how much I need to emphasise *AT MY STORE.* Not all Starbucks stores work the same way, chill out.

It helps because we have a super busy store. It improves our wait times because if we can see how many cups there are, we know when the barista needs help. Someone can jump on bar 2 and help, so drinks come out faster.

It also means if someone comes up and says "hey, is there a venti soy latte there? I'm really sorry but I forgot to ask for sugar" we can just fix that immediately. We don't have to pull all the stickers out, or try and remember until we get to it.

Lastly, customers are likely to be more patient if they see a line of cups on the bar. If I'm standing making two drinks that aren't theirs, nobody else is in the store, and they can't see their cup, they're going to be upset.

So overall, it's the best way to do things at our store, and I don't really care what other stores do.

Nice defense paragraphs but seriously just stick by sequence and use the dpm on the iPad. you can bump the order forward that has the modifications if needed. Staying in sequence makes it easier to modify deployment and send a third or fourth partner to the bar to help with pops in orders. There isn’t anything you can do to keep the customers from being upset, they genuinely don’t care about how many cups you have on the counter. They only care about their drinks.

At your store you can get on the partner hub and look at steps to excellence for more information on deployment. At your store you can also look on the iPads for the sequence of the different stations. My original statement wasn’t meant as an attack, but it seems you took it that way. So maybe you chill out? It was just a factual statement, if you pull the ticket you are telling the system that their order is in progress and it will assume a faster production estimate for mobiles and can send a notification that their order is being worked on
Normal_Human_4567 2 points 1y ago
Sorry, I didn't mean to come off defensive, just happens a lot that I'll get downvoted just because there are different standards across regions. We don't have an iPad so the cups are the *only* way we know what orders we have.

I'm assuming that if you have an iPad you don't have to pull stickers, which is where this discrepancy is coming from?
