Tall rant- covid isolation call out (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Collegecakes
problematic store WORSENS-

I called out an hour via text to SM because the store phone doesn’t work and I tried calling the night before a bunch of times. I was exposed to COVID then had symptoms last night so i’m isolating until my test. She tells me to “please find coverage for the rest of my shifts until negative covid test” which i’m like ? because doesn’t that qualify as sick and isn’t it their responsibility at the end of the day. I got the contact list and did make an attempt to text everyone to cover my upcoming shifts.

Really thinking of putting my notice in immediately even if my test is negative. I don’t feel that bad about giving notice because THE SCHEDULE IS ONLY MADE FOR THE WEEK OF. Normally, yes I would feel bad for ditching the upcoming 2 weeks out shifts but lol the upcoming shifts are nonexistent. this store keeps getting worse and stressful, am i in the wrong?

So do i quit or not yall- texted everyone in my store and no one is covering the shifts

Report it to hr, honestly. They aren't supposed to even ask why you are calling out, and if you call out day of for illness you aren't responsible for coverage. Also if you would have gone to work and did the covid coach, it would have told you to self isolate and go home anyways. I've never had a bad experience with hr personally.

That's not true at all. They are supposed to find out why you are calling out. Everything else you said is right on though. The ssv or manager is responsible for finding coverage if your sick or is an emergency .

I told them the reason that i called out was bc of covid bc that’s true but yea i was so mad when they said i have to find coverage for the next shifts

They aren’t allowed to ask you why you’re calling out?
Collegecakes [OP] 3 points 1y ago
ye i agree, i think they r allowed to ask why

I signed paperwork that stated they weren't allowed to ask you the reason for you calling out, and that you did not have to find your own coverage when you called in on the day of. I'll see if I can find the paperwork, but maybe it's my state? I live in texas. I think they can ask if it is covid related, but cannot straight up ask "why are you calling in".

Idk the other instances and it sounds like this is a last straw for you. And if that’s the case, fuck ‘em. Starbucks isn’t going to be paying *kinda* decent wages until next year so 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course this all depends on if you can afford to just quit. I quit a job suddenly and while I don’t regret it it did make my life harder

The other instances have been: first day not giving me a lunch for a shift and then kind of gas lighting me in her response, Not approving time off i’ve put in since end of october, messy store deployment overall- not proper ssv staffing so shifts are mishandled and so stressful, Scheduling me a little over the hours i asked, Schedules only one week out, micromanagement. Most of my straws have been bc of the SM. since starting here as a rehire i’ve only gotten more stressed. I think i’m gonna quit soon this week

Holy sh*t i’m def quitting- woke up and SM never told my upcoming shifts that I wouldn’t be coming bc of covid even tho I told them yesterday. Making them wonder where I am and making me look bad
