Any push for skin healthy sanitizer and soap? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by collinscreen
The sodium laurel sulfate in the commercial soap that we have to use and the sanitizer solution dries out my hands. I’m pretty sure people avoid all of the recommended hand washes because of how bad this stuff will dry out your hands. And yeah, you could wear gloves, but during peak you can’t change the gloves too quickly (and even less quickly if understaffed/no C.S.). That and you can get milk, sauces, and syrups in the gloves.

Is anybody pushing for more skin healthy sanitizer and soap? This is just one reason why Starbucks needs to be the corporation that reintroduces workplace democracy to the United States

Starbucks would never do this :(( but it’d be interesting for them to actually care for their employees!

I’d suggest talking to your manager. Mine lets me buy soap and bring it in. I have eczema and starbucks soap demolishes my hands so my manager let me buy some from CVS to use. I recommend finding something plant based with no fragrances

You need lotion to use when you go on your 30 and lotion at home, keep it in the bathroom and kitchen sink next to the soap, and get into the habit of using it.

If your store doesn’t provide reusable dish washing gloves 🧤, pick yourself up a pair for when you do dishes or drains.

My store has soapbox soap-sea minerals & blue iris now. I have Dyshidrotic Eczema on my hands from washing them so much. My manager lets me bring my own soap...as long as it's unscented. Just picked up some dial that's unscented from Walgreens! Also, use unscented lotion asap after washing/gloves if handling sanitizer. I use one gloved hand when I'm handling cash. I'm washing my hands so much they are cracked/bleeding. My derm prescribed me a steroid ointment. Not washing my hands every 30mins LOL. That being said I'm washing my hands when necessary for food safety. My manager ordered unscented lotion for everyone. ♥ ♥ ♥

I know every winter my manager makes sure to buy Eucerin lotion and leave it by the sinks so after we wash our hands we can moisturize but I personally keep a Vaseline hand cream in my apron for myself at all times

That would be nice but you can always bring your own hand soap and a travel size lotion. My store always has lotion in a cabinet. I also wear gloves when using chemicals as often as possible
