Somebody threw their frappuccino at my coworker today <\3(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by RoughEvidence
and then got mad when he was told he wouldn’t get another frap made for free. The shift got him a gift card, though. That’s on enabling bad customers 🤪
HamburgIar_351 points1y ago
That customer should have been banned, not given a gift card.
Nostalgianothing237 points1y ago
The cops should have been called. They were assaulted
philosopher_cat_lady141 points1y ago
It's honestly scary how frequently I hear these stories on these reddits. Some baristas are not even aware of how serious this behavior is. Not only is it emotionally abusive and criminal, it's dangerous and life-threatening. Today it's a Frappuccino (a Frappuccino can do harm, by the way. If it hit your eyeball, it could damage your eyesight, etc.). Tomorrow it's a boiling hot cup of tea. One barista said they didn't mind that a customer threw a cream cheese at them and thought it was funny. No. Throwing objects at partners is beyond unacceptable.
lemonuponlemon16 points1y ago
This is so… ridiculous. Those people are adults and throw tantrums like children. Time to wake up and think your life through if your favourite pastime is abusing people who can’t hit back.

As I've learned from my friends at Starbucks (I don't work there, myself), you call the cops on a customer, and you conveniently get let go the following week. Seems like hell; I don't know how you all do it.
Jew_332 points1y ago
Just another reason that Starbucks needs a Union.
[deleted]8 points1y ago
American starbucks is hell I am convinced.
strawberryrum_121 points1y ago
Jesus Christ I hate when shifts and managers suck up to people who abuse us. Someone threw a frap like a child?? Why are we rewarding that behavior they should be banned from the store. My store filed a warrant on someone the other day because she was causing so many problems and not leaving.
jazzysoranio77 points1y ago
I’m a shift and I def would NOT have rewarded that kind of behavior. Just teaching them to do that every day now. And teaching all the other customer how they need to act to get free gift cards.
philosopher_cat_lady65 points1y ago
You need to tell all of this to your store manager and your district manager, file an incident report, and encourage that coworker to file a police report and press charges. This type of shit is absolute nonsense. Your shift thinks it's ok for a customer to endanger a partner by throwing something at them? If I were your manager, I'd fire that shift. And if that shift doesn't fucking apologize for their absolute joke of management of that situation, if I were you, I'd transfer to another store.
[deleted]26 points1y ago
^^^Please this is the best advice this is absolutely not ok and very serious
defendpoppunk7751 points1y ago
You got me all the way fucked up if you ever thought someone could throw a frap at one of my partners and get a recovery card. I don’t understand shifts and managers who allow bad customer behavior. It leads to such a poor store culture. Partners come in and expect to be abused.
Downtown_Asparagus7141 points1y ago
That customer commuted an assault and should be criminally charged
coffeegirrrl28 points1y ago
Wow, I once had a customer tell me to "shut the f$ck up and give me my coffee" and I handed him back his money and made him leave. I can't even imagine if someone did that to one of my partners and it didn't result in a police report 😐
MrsClaireUnderwood26 points1y ago
I am not a lawyer, I'm especially not your lawyer and giving you any legal advice, but depending on the state you're in you might be able to file charges for battery if it hit your coworker. Most people call this assault but actually making contact is battery, not assault and assault is just the threatening part - think of someone winding their fist back like they're going to hit you in the face and making you flinch.
Some states roll assault and battery into one charge. Anyhow, if you know who the person is who threw the cup and your SM or DM can pull footage, you might be able to press charges.
Jew_33 points1y ago
🧐 You sound like a lawyer. But either way, good advice.
yboold25 points1y ago
Infuriating to read.. rewarding the mf?!! I’ve been losing faith in humanity a lot these days
Pheebers71317 points1y ago
As a shift I would have 100% cursed him out, get his drivers license and called the cops for assault.
adhd_in_pink16 points1y ago
I refuse to reward bad behavior from customers. Starbucks can fire me for not making the moment right, I don’t care. I will only give out recovery cards if we messed up the drink. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, hold your ground. You don’t deserve to be treated like garbage
LZARDKING16 points1y ago
Oh god let this happen to at least once so I can beat some custy ass
femalehomosapien1811 points1y ago
You back and look at the name on their order, if they used a debit card you can see their last name I think, and file a pickle report
OneRoseDark9 points1y ago
best. typo. ever.
RegularAsk1439 points1y ago
I'm a former store manager for the Bux...back when it was fun to work there....all the way back to my partner number starting with 135...lol. Never would I EVER have tolerated that from a customer, they would have been made to leave and banned from coming back. It WAS/SHOULD STILL BE the store managers job to protect employees over customers in all situations. I hate hearing how downhill the bux has gone when it comes to their partners.....
Intelligent_Treat9128 points1y ago
Fuck that person
raptoraptorr7 points1y ago
I would tell my SM about this situation, someone assaults a partner on the floor and they’re given a gift card? That partner should never come back if that’s how much respect baristas are given at your store
Beingme4me5 points1y ago
Look I'm a shift at my store and anytime a customer starts getting agitated I will step in. If someone even acted like they were going to throw something at my barista they be kicked out immediately not rewarded. if I ended up fired because of that it would be worth it because I'm not going to stand for my baristas getting abused. I used to work selling phones and got plenty of abuse (and creepy sexual harrasment) from customers and had to call the cops on a couple of people. It took a long time for me to stand up for myself and quit. But now I know none of the abuse is worth it.
Bribarista4 points1y ago
So glad my SM is a sweetheart, she banned the last people to throw drinks at our partners <3 i pray for the rest of y’all sending my love
urlocaltransboy4 points1y ago
as a shift, that was completely inappropriate. i would have refused service and called the police. your coworker was absolutely assaulted. in what world was giving them a gift card okay? maybe to just get them the hell out of there? still not okay at all. i hope you and your coworker are doing okay, and hopefully your shift gets coached on how to deal with violent customers differently.
i believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt, but the physical and emotional safety of your staff comes first.
RyusuiJL4 points1y ago
Shift here. And that asshole would have been subject to an assault charge if they did that to one of my baristas. I would have been sure to get their license number and filed a police report.
Tryocon3 points1y ago
Damn customers are throwing their precious frapps... we're out of base and probably will be for the next couple weeks aparently. No Frappuccinos and our drivethrough times are incredible
Hazel_is_Trans3 points1y ago
My store Manger told me if anyone did that too me if I deserved it or not the person would be banned and she help me sue if coffee was hot
Young-Jeezy3 points1y ago
Back when I first started as a baby barista a dude thought I gave him attitude and started calling me names and cussing me out when he asked for the restroom code, a shift was right next to me and did absolutely nothing and still gave him the code. Yeah I’m a supervisor now and I don’t stand for any customer to be an asshole to any of my baristas
Cabinwisp3 points1y ago
You need to contact corporate and make a fuss. Stuff like this has been going on for way to long. Your not royalty because you spent $5 on coffee
briannuzzi3 points1y ago
a gift card??? he would get a store ban at my store! and I’d like to think I’m pretty good at dealing with upset customers but I swear the day I get something thrown at me is not only the day I get fired but also the day I go to jail
wizardsticker3 points1y ago
This reminds me of when we were doing sensitivity training (or something similar I don’t remember the context exactly) and my boss told us to think of times we had showed compassion in the store. She went on to describe a time a when a customer was screaming at one of our baristas and then threw a venti Frappuccino at them. The barista responded by trying to comfort the customer at hand. This just really pissed me off tho because I don’t think our manager should ever be insinuating to baristas that it’s ok for a customer to treat you that way.
I responded to her comment by saying exactly that and she got pissed at me and then singled me out the rest of the time.
Koalastars0093 points1y ago
Did you get the customers name on the cup? At my old job we got an emailed compliant from a customer that caused hell. The managers just hung it up in the office. I could have easily used that email to cause all sorts of trouble for that man. But I didn’t. Not saying this kind of thing is acceptable but….
kaefeen2 points1y ago
that shift should be written up for that what the heck?????
fawnaluna2 points1y ago
last week a lady threw the drink i had just made for her at my shift and i because we told her to leave after calling another customer a slur 😐
Accomplished_Entry182 points1y ago
it’s the way i would have literally took that apron off and clocked out for the day. wtf.
BothWeb10042 points1y ago
Sounds like the U.S. Cops would be called in Canada, even spitting on someone is assault here.
[deleted]2 points1y ago
That’s assault
BornLoquat92 points1y ago
dude, this happens every couple months at my store.....
kurokurokii1 points1y ago
your coworker can definitely press charges though??
Visual_Rutabaga_37151 points1y ago
Does anybody else just rip whip it’s in the back???
IndividualRuin66751 points1y ago
no fucking way omg
cecicoot1 points1y ago
What in the world prompted that piece of shit to throw a frapp at a partner then expect a free one? If anyone dared to do that to someone in my store, I would’ve hopped the bar and thrown hands right there.
francescugh1 points1y ago
absolutely not. as a shift, i would NEVER enable that behavior. absolutely disgusting. you’re invalidating your partner’s experience.
sh3nan1gans_1 points1y ago
Was there a given reason why they did that? Like honestly wtf
StrawbaerryJay1 points1y ago
Literally call the police? Especially if you guys have cameras. What is your shift on?
Interesting_Winner961 points1y ago
Not acceptable... What made the customer throw it ?
No-Wonder89331 points1y ago
A customer threw the change I gave them at me today I just pretended I didn’t see it happen lol
mama_bibi1 points1y ago
What was before the throwing of the frap
JHOOOOBI1 points1y ago
The dreaded third party place and ass kissing starbucks does astounds me. But let a barista do it and it just gets us fired and assault charges. I’m not saying that’s the only way baristas should respond but damn Starbucks.
omgtee1 points1y ago
I’m sorry you had to experience that. That behavior is unacceptable. I don’t understand how people can be so cruel
