Hours (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by _nooobmaster69_
I’m a fairly new partner and got hired last July. When I did my interview, my manager back then guaranteed 20 hours or more. We currently have a new manager and I just got my schedule and I’m currently down to 10 per week. I just got benefits and asked him for more hours but I’m not getting any. What should I do?

"Hello, [SM's name]. I was promised 20 hours a week and am not getting 20 hours a week. I need to get 20 hours a week for [X] reason. If I can't acquire this amount of work I will have to separate myself from this job. Thank you for your time."

Or-
"Hey, (SM), I see that you have me put down for 10 hour weeks but I was promised 20 and count on 20. If you can't find me 20 hours here, do you mind helping me find 20 hours at a different location. Thank you"

I like my idea better considering OP has already tried discussing this with their new SM. A bit more professional force instead of passive request will probably help them quicker.

That's true! I was just thinking from the standpoint of they just got benefits and maybe they'd like to keep them and maybe changing locations would be easier than quitting (at least that's what I'm going through )

This is a fair point actually. Either way OP must put their foot down tbh

I talked to my SM twice about needing more hours (at least 30, closer to 40) and preferring to work full shifts over 4-5 hours literally every single day. He didn't seem to understand/honor it until I told him I'm looking at transferring to a store that can accommodate my needs. I don't think he did it on purpose, but by making the request (my needs) relevant to his job it is getting addressed more thoroughly.

I would have the conversation with your SM that you need the hours for benefits. I would also ask other people if you can pick up their shifts. 99% of the time someone doesn’t want to work.

Haven’t worked with him much since I usually work closings. But when I do, it’s between peak and I’m on dtr so I haven’t really gotten to know them :(

For me honestly 10 hours perfect ! Just a part time job for me. My manager schedule me for 37 hours, it’s just overwhelming

What works for you might not work for others. People have bills to pay unfortunately.
