Snowflakes… offensive? Wtf!

You don’t need decor snowflakes when you have customer snowflakes

Hmm well that sucks, I’m sorry. Our store is actively encouraged to be festive. We’re doing “Festive Fridays” where everyone is encouraged to dress up. We also have a holiday cookie signup sheet for partners to bring homemade treats. Then we’re doing a Holiday Secret Gift Exchange with any others interested. To top it off, we have decorations, including snowflakes. Definitely interesting to hear how different our store experiences can be.

We were also told to take all decorations down that were not “sirens eye” approved. Our store went from so freakin cute and cozy to boring basic. We had made tons of holiday decorations with last year’s leftover cups and gift cards (think cup wreaths and cute collages).

Meanwhile, in Seattle, an undecorated store is the anomaly, not the norm. Your DM is silly to put it mildly.

The only people I've seen offended by private stores doing Christmas things were...Christians. Nobody else cares as long as its not some government event.

honestly as a jewish person it’s nice to not be bombarded with christmas stuff at every place i go, however, i do realise i’m a minority and yall should be able to enjoy yourselves. especially because it wasn’t christmas related decor, it’s literally winter/seasonal? are fall leaves and pumpkins offensive too?

We got the no decorations talk too. Apparently it’s our regional manger’s royal decree? I’m in SoCal

Back when we were still writing on cups, our SM told us we could NEVER write "xmas" on the cup for when it was Christmas blend because people get offended 🙄 writings that season SUCKED and at a point I just started writing Xmas anyway

Weather is offensive??

My store has a whole decorated tree. I understand maybe not having so outwardly religious decorations, but snowflakes? That’s a miserable DM.

Our regional manager made us take down all of our decor “so the starbucks experience is consistent throughout stores.” We had fake plants and little jars with coffee beans and geodes up everywhere and really nicely decorated A-frames that all had to go. It really sucks that we had to take the personality out of our store so it matched the corporate feel of the others :(

Pretty sure that’s just your manager being a killjoy and not an actual Starbucks corporate thing. Otherwise we wouldn’t have literal “Christmas Blend” and gift cards with Christmas stuff splattered all over it.

So natural occurring weather is offensive now…that dm is ridiculous. My store always decorates a bunch.

Our district is fine with it. We have a tree up with other holiday decor. That’s so sad someone can now say snowflakes are offensive. Who on this planet would be offended by literal snow

We have decorations in our store plus festive pajamas every Saturday and Sunday!

I just let my partners go wild. There are two Christmas trees, snowflakes made of coffee filters, cool table decorations, tinsel. I don't care about the holidays but they had fun and love it so I say let em have a good time with it

We made a wreath out of hot cups to hang in the lobby and we were told to take it down

How is snowflakes offensive? They come from snow & nothing you can do about that

Last year my DM told my manager he liked my real pumpkins that said "Welcome" and "Happy Fall Y'all" on them.

That’s crazy my SM straight up has Christmas lights all over lol

Work in a brand new store, SM won’t let us even wear Santa hats cause it’s not PC…

My one store did stockings, the other was in mall so it was already expected to be decorated bc thats what the mall wants. And my current one is decorated for every season. We even decorated for the 50th anniversary

My previous DM was like that too. But our new one is ok with decorations. We have stockings Xmas lights and even a Hanukkah display.

Does your dm realize that all the gift cards have holiday themed stuff…ya know the ones corporate has us order?

Wtf is wrong with Starbucks?? The Starbucks I work at let us dress up for Halloween.. But I don't get why they find snowflakes offensive..

But then all of the promotional material provided by the company, is inundated with holiday specific imagery, ie snowflakes, snowman cookies, reindeer cake pops lolololol. I love it here.

You can tell your DM that a customer says they are full of BS. Snowflakes are not offensive --it is freaking WEATHER. It will happen regardless if people love winter or not. Snow is natural and seasonal. If people are offended by snowflakes they can become "snowbirds" and go to the southern states/warmer countries to avoid at all costs. Seriously. Tell the DM that they are being a hypocrite by saying no decorations but the CUPS, paper and all plus tumblers being sold COMING FROM CORPORATE reflect the winter season. Everything isn't a huge F.U. to folks. Being careful not to offend a person shouldn't be broken down to if a Christmas tree or a fruitcake is out at a business during the end months of the year. /rant

It’s not about being offensive. That sounds like an uninformed opinion lol. Starbucks wants stores to be consistent and only decorated with what is in the holiday set to have a more uniform approach across stores, partners can go crazy with lights and such that distracts from the retail set. Snowflakes and stuff like that you speak of can be done. Call it a new partner appreciation board.

Maybe your DM is trying to be mindful of the fact that the holiday season is super stressful, painful, and isolating for a lot of people. The suicide rate goes up during the holiday season because it sucks for people who don’t feel jolly this time of year. Especially when you literally can’t turn on TV or leave your house without being bombarded by it all. I think a lot of customers (and probably some partners too) would really appreciate that thoughtfulness.
