Unspoken etiquette for lunch drinks?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by corgisdobethicc
Hey, been a partner for about a month and I get my lunch at work anytime I have a lunch during a shift. I was never told this but it is it considered rude to put in the drink order and have whoever is on bar make it like any other drink? It seems more rude to try to squeeze in and make it yourself of course do is there an unspoken sort of agreement that you either pick a drink you can make quickly yourself or don’t order at all?
I’d never dream of ordering something super complicated of course

Nah, it’s normal to order a drink and food. The only issue is if you are staring at them like “where is my drink >:(“ the whole time or if you mark out the drink and then don’t tell them you made it yourself, so they end up wasting time making a duplicate

If I’m ever on bar and a partner glares at me like that while I’m making their lunch drink, I’m throwing hands lol, thanks!

Honestly my store doesn’t even care if you forget to tell someone not to make your drink. We’re just like “alright we’ll do you want this one or should I just dump it?”

True, my store partners don’t get mad, but it can be frustrating if it’s peak or something and they could have saved time just skipping that drink, esp if it’s a complicated one (which is often the case at my store when they make it themselves)

Quick heads up theres a do not make button on the customization page on the pos so people on bar can k ow the drink was already made.

Oh that’s true. Usually people at my store are super on top of their stickers during peak bc they know the struggle, or they mark it out before they leave and just make it on their way out so they’re already right there to grab the sticker

My store allows you to make your own drink but I don’t think that’s standard? It goes toy depends on the situation but there is no spoken or written etiquette

At my store at nights everyone just makes their own food and drink. When there’s one person for dto, dtr, cold bar, hot bar, it’s not a big deal for us when a partner slides in real quick to make their own drink in fact it is encouraged. Mornings is a totally different story. When there’s someone at every position they don’t want you in their way so they will have no problem making it for you

I always wait for a break and make it myself tbh. I feel like food is different- I always say something like “hey can you throw this in for me when you get a chance.” If it’s super busy then I don’t think it would hurt to ask if they’d rather you make your drink or if it would be easier for them to have it in their queue.

I normally have them make it for me. If someone is solo bar then I’ll ask if they want me to make it, since I can hop on the empty bar. I’m not about to kick someone off bar and mess up their rhythm to make my own drink.

I make my own if it’s busy.

Make it yourself before you clocking out

I almost always make my own, but if I’m on bar I have partner’s that ask if it’s easier for me to make it for them, or for them to make it for themselves. So that’s a nice option. I like to make my own, but definitely stay out of the way as much as possible!
