Do y’all give partners priority when they’re on breaks?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ItzBoogieMan
Since we all know starbucks is miserable and breaks are the only enjoyable things at break, I try my best to give partners their food and beverage first and as fast as possible, so they can maximize break time?

when i’m on bar or warming yes! some of my shifts will give us a 5 minute warning before our 10’s or 30’s so we can get our food/drink made before we go on our break so we don’t lose any of our time

That’s so nice of them to give you a warning, that sounds like it would definitely help a lot

Most of my shifts are really lax when it comes to at least our 10’s, if we go over a little bit it’s ok they don’t mind

Same here

💀 I am so grateful for my store letting us just do everything ourselves. Ofc someone else will do the transaction but we can do it behind the register and then make the stuff ourselves without waiting thru the que or in line. I'm assuming it's not protocol though? I've always had a hunch but tbh I never confirmed it.

Everyone in my store has gotten into the habit of making and grabbing their own food when going in a 10 or lunch. Only exception is if oven is popping and it’s best to just leave it in cue or you want a hot drink other than that do it yourself

When my manager isn't present, we make our own drinks/food, then start the timer for our tens. When he's there we often don't get our drinks until our tens are up, though the warming partner will always throw in food for us

When I was still working, we would happily make the drinks and food for partners, *when we’re not too busy.*
If we have movement, the partner on break should make it.
If we’re really busy, like peak, just grab something small or easy to make and stay out of the bar’s way.
echowolf90 points1y ago
Official Starbucks policy is that partners cannot make their own drinks and bar must make it.
TemplarSensei71 points1y ago
I never heard that at all when I was working.
echowolf91 points1y ago
Ya most managers don’t enforce it. It’s really annoying when they do but I think it’s so they know that you’re marking things out correctly. Same reason why you’re not supposed to ring it up yourself.
TemplarSensei71 points1y ago
The ringing up part is a thing. Even the whole “using other’s till” part was a no no. Frankly, that’s annoying, especially if someone is covering during peak.

At a new store where all the people on ovens are so effing slow I felt bad even asking this morning so I just got a box. The DT bottlenecks are *always* food. (I'm unusually fast on warming, but my first store had like over 100 *food items* per half so I kinda had to be.)
plushiequeenaspen5 points1y ago
I used to just have them tell me what they got so i could start it and then disregard their sticker when it finally came through. Break time is limited, it's good to have it ready asap. Especially for warming (most baristas at my stores made their own drinks anyway and told bar to ignore their stickers)

Yes except for the partner that likes to get a frap with a ton of modifications and two types of cold foam in it. That one goes behind all of the mobiles.
queenrara3 points1y ago
You can always use the dpm to force print partners orders now to skip the line
XSnapCracklePopX2 points1y ago
Eh, my store is weird. So we have partners that like to “do it themselves” (lots of green beans) and it annoys the SHIT out of me because I’ll have 15 drinks lined up and they’re on cold bar (next to me) making their Trento, 6r, light ice, light water, açaí base, berry base, PT/GT, shaken ten times, two Splenda, xfoam drink while I need to make three pink drinks (no ice, Trenta…) and just stare at them. I’ve gotten to the point where I just kick them over to DT Bar (since I’m mid and it’s closed after 3pm) and let them do their BS over there and leave me a-l-o-n-e.

With how busy it’s been, I genuinely don’t mind if my team goes over 10 minutes. In fact, I encourage 15 minute breaks because 10 is waaaay too short amount of time. Really though, ever since I became a shift, I gave everyone longer breaks because the work is simply tiring.
yungwhipandnaenae2 points1y ago
my breaks start when i sit down, much to my managers dismay

At my store, our 10 starts when we get our food. We mark out our stuff, and 80% of the time we make our own drink and give oven a heads up of what we ordered. I’m not an oven partner, but at the rate we usually get food, I like to think they probably do prioritize it
