my manager changed my shift while i was on the floor without telling me?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by diotheleo
i came in on a 1-6:45 shift, and in the middle of my shift she changed it to 2:15-8 without saying anything to me, or my shift lead. im nearly about to pretend i didnt see it and leave at 6:45 because she hasnt said a word to me about this change
Guilty_Owlz483 points1y ago
leave at 6:45
diotheleo [OP]333 points1y ago
oh i am, if she writes me up, i have a photo of our weeklt printed schedule showing the 1-6:45. she didnt say jack shit to.me
queenrara85 points1y ago
Maybe she meant to adjust a different week
diotheleo [OP]124 points1y ago
maybe but she still didnt say anything to me, and she's always telling people when she changes schedules
queenrara46 points1y ago
If she's always telling people, why do you feel like she intentionally messing with you today?
philosopher_cat_lady1 points1y ago
That happens!
Several-Government823 points1y ago
Did she just write on the dcr or where did she change it
diotheleo [OP]11 points1y ago
the online system so it changed on the scheduling app, but she didnt change it on our printed schedules
Assiqtaq-26 points1y ago
Did you clock in at 1 or 2:15? Changing it on you doesn't mean anything if the clock in is wrong. I mean, it isn't like you can just clock in whenever you want.
diotheleo [OP]24 points1y ago
i clocked in at 12:55, so before 1. i dont "clock in whenever i want", i always clock in at least 2 minutes early. i'm always at my store 20 mins before my ahift bc i have anxiety about being late. so yeah, she changed it after i'd clocked in on time :)
[deleted]9 points1y ago
At my store we aren’t allowed to clock in before our scheduled time
Assiqtaq3 points1y ago
I think I was misunderstood. What I meant was, and I kinda can't believe I have to explain, if you clocked in correctly as to what you had been scheduled it would look really funky to have told you that you were working the wrong schedule in the middle of your shift. Too bad so sad so sorry, I already clocked in and worked what I was scheduled before, and obviously I was allowed to clock in so I was correct at the time.
I don't know what you guys are downvoting for, I was not accusing OP of anything wrong. I was saying the manager would have been stupid if she had tried to say "it was that way the whole time" after OP was already clocked in at the original scheduled time.

My new manager accidentally scheduled me until 1p today when we had agreed on 10a (I also had a pic, with her handwriting, that I showed to remind her) said I'm sorry if this puts you in a bind but I cannot stay past 10a. They can't (shouldnt) argue with documentation.
diotheleo [OP]34 points1y ago
yuppp ive got pictures of the daily and weekly schedules showing the 1-6:45 shift because of this. not my responsibility to know you changed it without telling me while i was already here
The_Infinite_Doctor16 points1y ago
They genuinely can't. Ok, to be more correct, they *legally* can't.
ianbz52 points1y ago
My manager is so nice but she did this to me once and I was so pissed. Morning peak exhausts me beyond words so when I’m only there from like 5-10 it makes the day feel easier. I walk in and I see the DCR with my time crossed out from 10 to 12:30 and no one told me anything prior to walking in. Out of the kindness of my heart, I stayed til 10:15
ProfessionallyMessy3 points1y ago
Did they give you a lunch?
ianbz2 points1y ago
I did not receive a 30 at any given point and it didn’t look like it was gonna happen at all because the ssv on the floor is kinda incompetent so I just left before I would’ve needed one
nikkicarter11112 points1y ago
Lunch rules depend on location. Not all states mandate breaks.
helgathehorriblez1 points1y ago
I believe it’s federal law.
nikkicarter11111 points1y ago
Unfortunately it is not. The federal wage and hour law, called the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), doesn't require employers to provide meal or rest breaks. Fewer than half of US states require employers to provide a meal break.
rudebii35 points1y ago
So you came in at 1pm, clocked in and at some point changed the shift to end at 8pm. Your wording implies that she’s going to edit your start time to 2:15pm, which is illegal af.
You probably should have confirmed with your SM instead of just leaving, but the whole thing sounds so shady and confusing you can’t be faulted for leaving at 6:45.
Edit: you should resolve it the next time you see your SM and before they payroll for sure.
diotheleo [OP]29 points1y ago
oh i'm gonna talk to her, but i didnt see the change until she'd left for the day. i'm also gonna keep an eye on the app to see if she tries to change it before i see her next and fight it. im also planning on calling both my dm and ethics and compliance about it

Take screenshots
AUserNameThatsTaken124 points1y ago
Leave at 6:45 if the schedule is already printed go by that and if she mentions anything about it show a picture of the printed schedule
diotheleo [OP]9 points1y ago
thats the plan
gayraidboss13 points1y ago
If you’re out at 6:45, leave at 6:45.
spookbish6910 points1y ago
Someone tell me to come back when there’s an update on what happens when op clocks out
diotheleo [OP]18 points1y ago
well i clocked out already, timeclock said i was clocking out late at 6:51, we'll see what my store manager says
verdeuce2 points1y ago
Was it on the dcr? Where did you see that the shift changed?
diotheleo [OP]1 points1y ago
in the scheduling app we can get on our phones, but it wasnt done till after i clocked in cause i checked it 10 mins before my shift and it was still my original schedule
verdeuce1 points1y ago
Chances are high that they thought they were editing the new schedule. Have you seen them since and asked about it?
violentfemme179 points1y ago
Fucking around with partners hours and/or time theft are the number one things SM’s get fired for.
If they’ve done it once, they’ve done it many times.
Call PCC.
gltgphone8 points1y ago
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the policy is your manager can't change the schedule within 24 hours. Say you have a thing at 7, explain to your team what happened and you are very sorry if this puts them in a bind. They can call the manager to cover on the floor cuz the buck stops wit them.
diotheleo [OP]3 points1y ago
oh i did actually have plans at 7 and i left at 6:45. my shift lead has my back on that, he even took proof of the dcr saying i was scheduled 1-6:45
philosopher_cat_lady6 points1y ago
Managers do that. Then they expect it to be your responsibility to check the schedule. Or they just plain forget to tell you they changed the schedule. Either way, they're idiots.
tittywhipp4 points1y ago
Leave at 6:40
Ok-Bowl43924 points1y ago
Sounds like she changed your start time as well to get out of giving you breaks
tomsequitur3 points1y ago
Yeah let management cover the hours they didn't schedule. Hope you went home at 6:45
diotheleo [OP]1 points1y ago
i did 😊
Necessary_Low9392 points1y ago
She’s trying to get you in trouble.
