[Trenta Rant] Tired of being on only solo drive thru (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by AUserNameThatsTaken1
Recently about a week or two ago I returned to work since I had dislocated my knee and had to recover. Before I dislocated my knee I was having problems with my shift leads and sm because I was constantly being put on solo drive thru all day every single shift I had. I let it be known that drive thru was my most hated position but didn't mind being on drive thru hear and there just as long as I get moved around often. So when they heard that they tried putting me on cs for like 10-30 mins after I clock on but then after that it would be solo drive thru all shift. The day my knee popped out I they said they would move me around. Now ever since I've been back it's been solo drive thru all day and I'm at a high volume store that gets rushed very often. Despite that my manager will barely ever schedule enough people to handle the rushes we get. I'm at the point to where I'm going to walk in and say if I have to be put on drive thru I will not work today and head back home. I've brought up me hating being put on drive thru every shift to my manager before and she said that she would talk to shifts. I've also talked to the shifts and they all say that they will try to get me off but that usually means maybe being put off of drive thru on the last 10 mins of my shift. Im so fucking pissed that I keep being ignored like this which makes it harder to try and seem happy towards the customers that come through cause I get pissed that they keep doing it. Does anyone know if there is any policy that states that baristas must be moved around?

Edit: thanks to my manager not scheduling enough people I often have to do more than drive thru. I usually have to include taking orders up front, help bar out, and then make stuff like sweet cream, refresher bases, or whips

I mean can you exactly say why solo drive thru is being impacted by your knee? (Not doubting you, just thinking about how to phrase it). We don’t have solo drive thru at my store so I don’t know what it entails but if you can say, specifically doing X is impacting my knee. I have a doctors note, I cannot be put in this role for X amount of time but I can do XYZ roles.

Make sure your SM agrees to it so no SSV can go against it, and so they can staff for it. You call also call your health benefits thing (is it Sedgwick? Not in the US) to get an accommodation. & then when asked to do things you’ve specified you can’t do, emotionlessly repeat ‘you know that is against the accommodation, I’m at risk of redislocating my knee. You don’t want your name on that incident report’.

My knee is healed to point to where I can work as normal. If my knee was getting hurt whilst working solo drive thru then that would mean that being on any other position would harm it more since they require more movement. My problem is that my shift leads won't move anyone around and it causes me to get burnt out being on the same position everytime I work. They do this with everyone else as well I know the people on bar get put on that position so often that they get burnt out as well. One of our best people on bar will bug the shift all they can and whilst I would love to do that I don't have that flexibility on drive thru. I've been slowing myself down on drive since they want me to have below 45 secs on solo drive

Oh, okay so your problem is just that you don’t like being deployed in the same position? I misunderstood. This has been pretty common at a few stores I’ve worked at - you might need to accept that this is their management style and ask for a transfer if it’s not something you want. There’s no policy on this.
