Do you think it would be wrong for me to change my availability? Right now I have open availability but yall... ya girl is tired. I'm a shift, I typically work around 40-50 hours a week, and sometimes when I take off a day or two a week my manager will schedule me 7 or 8 days in a row (I don't know if she notices). I mean it's okay because i get my hours for the week but when I tell you ya girl is getting overwhelmed and burnt out i mean it. So do you think setting my availability so I have Sundays off or something would be okay??

Just a warning, just because you request availability doesn’t mean you’ll get it approved. Speaking from experience 😭😭

I came back to Starbucks after years away and despite needing the money I absolutely stood firm on only working part time and no weekends. It’s been much better.

Girl I’m burnt out with 35hrs tell me ur ways

Yes it’s completely ok for you to take off some availability!!! You have a life outside of Starbucks!

50 omg ?
lolfuckigottawork [OP] 12 points 1y ago
yeah it's ridiculous. If I don't work 50 then the other closing ssv does 😭 we just have so many call offs and not enough people its crazy

Why would it be wrong? You are a person with a life, not just a Starbucks employee. That mindset hold us all back.

If you’re considering it, do it as soon as possible. It won’t take affect until the new schedule rolls out which is weeks away, and by then you will be on the brink of insanity. Last SM did the same shit to me. Was so bad that if I wasn’t physically there to work, we would close early. Don’t let your SM work you like that because they’ll do it, no hesitation. Set boundaries.

PLEASE change that availability, omg. you need a breather!

I’m a shift. I can work every day but my availability doesn’t include coming in before 11am. I wouldn’t be able to function if they made me come in real early and stay real late all the time like they do to some supervisors. If taking a specific day off is what you need go for it.

My suspicion is that getting Sundays off specifically would be considered a bigger ask than getting like a Wednesday off. Literally every store I’ve been at has struggled to staff the weekends. If your store is like that you could be denied just because your boss has trouble staffing Sundays as is whereas if you asked for Wednesday off you’d be granted it. Just something to consider. I’m sure you deserve Sundays off though.

You want to get a guaranteed day off each week so that you can look forward to that day as your sabbath. Working in the South, a lot of my coworkers would be unavailable on Sundays (or Saturdays in the case of 7th day Adventists).

If you want to avoid pushback from your SM then you could shoot for a less popular day.

Like everyone else says, take time off. Have at least one solid day to be off but two is def better to rest on. Try and pick a less busy day for your store, if you're feeling guilty for whatever reason or need one that won't be difficult to achieve. Lock it in sooner than later.
Also, take/use your vacation time!!

my boss told me if i ever needed a three day weekend to just request it off bc i’m the only shift w open availability & im the one clocking all the overtime... 3 minutes later we decided i’d be making every weekend a 3 day weekend until i’m ready to go back to 5 because he’s afraid i’m going to burn out & start dreading coming to work. TAKE TIME OFF

Depending on the stores needs, I would pick a different day than Sunday. Sundays typically don’t have a lot of availability and if you’re currently available, you may get denied to take Sundays off. But yes, have a set day off girl. Everyone needs it.

Might have more luck requesting a weekday but yes

As you should! I am also a shift and I take Saturdays off. It may not be much but I like my Saturdays

Give yourself a day off each week, that you cannot work on. Your body will thank you.

I am legit experiencing the same thing right now but my manager started acting really shady to one of my pals that just updated her availability bc she got a second job. Started going on saying “I hired you as a seasonal barista you cannot change your availability this drastically” or something
used2ballerina 1 points 1y ago
i think there’s a rule that you can’t change your availability after getting hired for X amount of time

Homegirl has been with the company for 6 years but took off two weeks to transfer to this store. I don’t know any of the rules
