How do I go about a job that denies a leave of absence due to me being a new hire? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by jaxophur
I work at Starbucks and I told my manager before I was hired that I needed December 26th to January 25th off due to a very important personal reason, not a life or death emergency or an emergency at all but is a huge thing for me. He told me that as long as I give a 30-day in advance notice, then it would be approved. I just got off the phone with the office that deals with leave of absence cases and I was told that my case would probably be denied because I just started 3 weeks ago. I feel stuck because I disclosed with my manager that this would not be an issue before I was hired, now I am hired and the one problem I wanted to avoid is here. The case is still going through but in the event that they contact me saying it is denied because I'm too new, I don't know what I should do.
Edit: Problem is resolved, was told to take my leave whether it's accepted or not.

Quit and reapply after or go somewhere else. Don't waste your time with this. Make it clear you will quit if not approved.

Talk to your manager, they can approve up to a one month leave of absence without Sedgwick
