So tired of people complaining after ordering light ice that their drink is "too short" or "too milky". What do you think we're supposed to put in to fill all that room the ice takes up? And then they get all mad "how can you let ice take up so much room? This is a scam!" Yes, Brenda, because I made these recipes myself and made sure the ice cubes were bigger to take up room, just to short you of your $7 iced latte.

My favorite is "medium ice"
What the absolute fuck does that mean?
Select_Swordfish_603 [OP]25 points1y ago
Did you mean: the normal amount
TyrannicalKitty5 points1y ago
I just say okay. Especially when they're like "not too much not too little"
Wait, it's Starbucks. Mediums are grandes!
"Grande amount of ice"

I had a woman say “well light ice isn’t enough and extra ice is too much. So I guess I want medium ice.” And I said “yeah medium ice?” And she was like “yes make sure to tell the person making my drink I want medium ice.” So I went to the barista and said “make that drink with medium ice” and the barista stared at me and said “…so the normal amount?” And I said “exactly”

Customers think ice "just takes up space," and is effectively denying them product; it's not, it cools the drink down, and recipes are made with ice as a consideration, and priced assuming a certain amount of ice.
Moreover, ice costs money to make, just like everything else that goes into your drink. It's not as expensive as milk, or the labor to make the drink, but the water that goes into the ice costs money, the electricity used to make the ice costs money, it costs money to maintain the ice machine, etc.

Customer asked me for a frap with very light ice. I explained the ice is needed for consistent. They said they understood. They did not understand.

Okay, but I’ve had at least three ppl order a Frappuccino with NO ice. the confusion.

people who get light ice disgust me. easier to say since I don’t have to pay for drinks anymore but your coffee will literally be WARM if you don’t fill most of it with????

Former barista here! For me personally, I always prefer light ice because I have really sensitive teeth and if the drink is too cold it hurts to drink it. Most of the time I actually get no ice cause I take so long to finish a drink, if there's ice it gets all diluted and gross. I get light ice if it's hot out or if I'm hungover and need the refreshing feel hahaha
(Though this only applies to actual cold bar drinks. If someone gets like an iced latte with no ice it's a lil lukewarm....)

I never get hot bar drinks light ice, because that ruins the proportions of the drink. But I’ll get refreshers and teas light ice occasionally just because we do put an awful lot of ice in those

i always get extra light ice in my drinks after my shift because i usually take a while to drink them so they would just turn into half water before i had even drank half of the drink

The people who get shaken espressos and want light ice are what gets me. Don’t complain when it’s not full if you want a latte just ask for that but I know what you tyna do

I had someone ask me for a frap with chunky ice once, I was like what? She basically wanted her ice in the consistency of frap chips. I will never forget the look of joy on her face when I handed out her frap soup
