Realistically, you won’t have much power as a store manager. You’re there to essentially do admin work, schedules, help your team on the floor a bit, and above all else, be a slave to your district manager.
Anything you really want to do to help your team succeed will magically go against some arbitrary rule set by corporate. Too few partners scheduled on top of two call outs? Well golly gee gosh you’re still above your allotted labor hours you absolute failure!
If you’re lucky with having a good DM and RD you might have more opportunity to make changes or bend the rules a bit, but go in expecting nothing and feeling like a failure all the time because you literally can’t make it easier for your team without getting in trouble. Also take my comment with a grain of salt bc I’m only a barista and can only speak for what my SM has personally told me about their situation. They’re a great SM and we have a great DM too, but even with them, we’re horribly under-scheduled due to Starbucks‘ labor metric even though we have the baristas and the availability.
