So i worked with a borrowed shift today and she was really shocked when i told her that we needed to take the hoppers down and vacuum the beans out. She said that her store doesn’t do that. What do your stores do?

I always thought taking the hoppers out and vacuuming was a part of clean play.

We take the hoppers out to be washed and vacuum out the beans!
I love breaking down the espresso machine and vacuuming the beans out is my favorite part!!!

New machines ( mastrena 2) you do not. It is because they automatically cool down when not in use. Mastrena (1) always stay warm. My store still takes the hoppers off, but be careful. If you crack or break any of the hoppers you can not use the machine until you get a new one.

It depends on the machine tho, right? Mastrena I it’s the standard, for Martrena 2 I don’t think it is?

Every single night that should be done. If not that’s absolutely disgusting
Candid_Accident_1 points1y ago
Okay, but sticking a vacuum that’s been on the floor into the hoppers isn’t disgusting?! This process shocked me since I started at Starbucks and haunts me still.

at least at my store, our vacuum is only used on the machines, nowhere else

Well the beans that get vacuumed go in the garbage and then you clean the hopper. At my store we lock the hopper, dump the remaining beans into a foggy cube and any beans that spilled out on top of the grinder is vacuumed. Then we clean the hopper, so it isn't that bad. Also you guys don't have a shelf for the vacuum ?!
Candid_Accident_1 points1y ago
We do all of that, too, which isn’t the gross part. The gross part is the vacuum and THE HOSE that goes into the hopper and the inside of the machine is stored on the ground AND used to vacuum things off the ground. The floor the vacuum is kept on is just right by DTO... on the same floor we spill on, come back from the bathroom, etc.

My store just recently got the new Mastrenas and according to the training I got, we wipe them down inside and out every night but only vacuum and hand wash during clean play.
Ok-Mix-51291 points1y ago
You don’t have to do it every single time but it doesn’t hurt to do it

All the drive through stores I’ve worked at have but none of the others

We've never done this, but we're a tarbux
liansu_1 points1y ago
We did before our bean vacuum broke, and no one took the time to get a new one. We haven’t for probably 6 months or more.
