Very funny
the_senor_cardgage 105 points 1y ago
joke aside, there isn't an easy position so much as there are positions with different overstressors. if your playcaller deploys to strengths, you may unfortunately wind up stuck in overdrive where you're best.

honestly on shitshows like these, it's probably better to be somewhere you excel and can get through nightmare level difficulty due to practice than somewhere you think might be easy (most would say support or customer support, but these are \*not\* easy positions) and realizing you're way out of your depth.

shoutout for saying CS is hard, people don’t realize that. We have a literal CS god at our store and he saves our asses time and again during rushes, overwhelmed CS = bad news bears
Roarkshop 39 points 1y ago
CS is easy to LEARN but difficult to master and very difficult to do in general. It's very physically taxing even if it's not hard to learn and be good at like Bar is.
BatWeary 11 points 1y ago
this right here. i’m currently out stores backup CS god and every damn day i come in to find out we have no milk, ice, cups, lids, coffee is an hour old or completely out, no iced coffee, cold brew needs pulled, kegs need made, every sauce/syrup needs backups made. my name is being called every two minutes like i don’t know i have a whole store to straighten up. and this happens on busy days, slow days…rush or no rush. yesterday i told all the shifts “DO NOT put me on CS thursday”. i’ve spent almost all of the last 7 shifts i’ve worked in the position and i’m not getting stuck there on hell day
elodieme1 5 points 1y ago
Yeah tbh I would love bar during rcd, just get it out of the way and not have to talk go people

I seriously don't think it's going to be too crazy since it doesn't coincide with holiday launch.
peanutbutterbarbie 42 points 1y ago
i’m hoping this is true but we’ll see. holiday launch was a disaster at my store so my hopes are t very high for tmr 😫
swollemolle 18 points 1y ago
I don't think you've seen the hoardes of customers we've been having in the last few days. Today was unreal. We barely made it past peak, and it was nearly impossible for partners to have breaks. The number of customers stopping by Starbucks has increased tenfold since holiday launch.
God save us all
candidinsanity 1 points 1y ago
our peak was worse than the holiday launches with red cups today
HamburgIar_ 2 points 1y ago
Yeah I was wrong. RIP fam
jelizt 1 points 1y ago
I worked holiday launch from 11-5 and there was a line wrapped around the building my entire shift.
HorrorGirl27 70 points 1y ago
Bar, but I’m a masochist.

My home store is closed until the 23rd and the store I've been at wants me to train a partner on their second day, tomorrow, red cup day 🙃🙃
Alefur 34 points 1y ago
Time for a crash course
TheMangoLlama 28 points 1y ago
I had my training on red cup day 2018 🥲 was extremely over whelming but here I am 3 years later

For me personally, bar is always the easiest position. One of my old coworkers nicknamed me "Turbo", I am really really fast lol
jas0nd3an 5 points 1y ago
This is true if management isn’t stressing customer connections during these rushes. I was great at CS/food and at bar. I could do dto/w plus DTbar, plus grabbing my own food. It’s sucked but I ended up there often when my work bestie wasn’t there. And when she went on breaks I took her place. But CS and bar were my strengths (if I wasn’t running shifts for the sleeping/hungover shift in the back) I could usually take care of CS and food while training a partner at register (we were a location no one wanted to work at. Super high volume. No staff. Bad bad drive). So my mainstays, cs/food, train/help ring on second register, or bar (dt or front). But I would always be criticized on my connections when on bar, even though I moved faster than almost anyone there except my best friend there, but on stressful days like this they’d only half heartedly complain…but keep me on bar. Honestly I loved the fast pace. Unless breaks were neglected. I would complain any time anyone wasn’t getting their breaks. So there’s no “easy” position. It’s just whatever you’re best at and what they won’t complain about.
drinkliquidclocks 4 points 1y ago
I work at a licensed store so we don't have "customer connections" thank god. I don't have to talk to anyone on bar except to call out their name lol. If I had to do connections at the same time I wouldn't like it anymore!

In the fetal position
aldrif-odinsdottir 1 points 1y ago
Me on my lunch break today after working front PoS through peak
Ptotw88 35 points 1y ago
Maybe dto orders if you have someone taking money and getting your food
saddestgirl1995 30 points 1y ago
Last year we had extra labour for red cup day so I was just extra coverage to hand out cups at POS and MOP. That's the best spot in the house.
ImpressionMammoth 14 points 1y ago
I feel like bar is the easiest for me since you just keep making drinks without worrying about flexing. Oven is second for me since you’re focused on food, which isn’t the craziest on red cup day, but you have to constantly communicate and be in necessary motion to get food items where they need to be while still sequencing food. Register seems like it’d be the easiest but every POS superstar gets all the gold stars for handling that many people in queue while keeping friendly conversations and moving things in a good pace. Every DTO and support person is a god tomorrow.
wildaloofrebel55 14 points 1y ago
Front register, hands down. But we have some new partners so I guarantee imma have to work tomorrow
Luxia_Knight 9 points 1y ago
It’s not that bad just handing out cups

Actually the hardest part is putting the stupid lids on the cups
Smart-Job8558 2 points 1y ago
This literally cannot be emphasized enough
Royal_Development_25 8 points 1y ago
Window uwu
aldrif-odinsdottir 2 points 1y ago
Best spot every day; love some some window
evilprozac79 6 points 1y ago
With Red Cup Day being separate from Holiday launch this year, I'm thinking oven will be the easiest. They don't care about food as much, only the drinks, so while every position will be busier that normal just due to increased foot traffic, nothing about oven should really be too stand out. It's not like people are rushing to get their first Cranberry Bliss Bar of the year on this particular day.

Head in the freezer so nobody can hear the tears

Depends on where you’re most comfortable. There’s no “easy” spot on any of the promo days. No matter where you end up, you’ll be getting screwed. Personally I’d go ovens or support, cause it’s the least customer interaction. My store used to have an extra person on for promo days in the morning as like a second support, but just to be the stock, trash, and dish bitch. That was my personal favorite, cause I’d just pop in an earbud and ignore the customers.
franglaisedbeignet 1 points 1y ago
Dish bitch!! Love that!!
Frosty-Shelter7372 5 points 1y ago
CS maybe? They all suck but at least you can go to the back often enough
snitchesendupinditch 3 points 1y ago
For me the best positions are window and ovens. But honestly as long as I'm not put on bar I'm happy.
Hazel_is_Trans 3 points 1y ago

rnaggie53 3 points 1y ago
I’m gonna offer myself at window because I find it easiest & im good at being friendly, dealing w issues, & getting us an ok time. I know some ppl hate window but it’s my favorite. If not I’d also be ok with DTO or support bar (but that would be very stressful)
haydensidun 3 points 1y ago
Bar
wildaloofrebel55 16 points 1y ago
Dear god no. Drive bar seems better than cafe/mobiles….I’m already picturing all the fucking mobiles…
aquamanreigns93 5 points 1y ago
I concur
mcr0414 4 points 1y ago
Um no. 1911 here saying that is a damn lie
BuffyBoltonVampFlayr 0 points 1y ago
It's not tho... but I think it has a lot to do with the mood you're in on these specific kinds of days, more than anything else.

You can be the strongest on-bar barista on the floor or in your store, but if you're in a funk that day, that is what's really gonna fuck things up and make it harder and more overwhelming for you.

But if you're in a semi-decent mood, even when you're not the strongest on bar, it's easy easier to find your groove. Which in turn makes it easier to go into auto pilot mode where your body just busts shit out on its own, even when your mind is no where in sight lol

I worked today from open to 11 and I was on warming. At one point due to my strength on warming, my shift pulled the register partner off register to cold bar support and left me during a 63 customer 30 minute interval to solo warming and register by myself. Uber, curbside, and mobile food all by myself, whilst ringing every customer.

matchababyy 1 points 1y ago
DTR if you're asking for advice with a newer barista! DTO if they're more comfortable with the buttons
not for me though, i love the insanity that comes with cs and hustling the whole shift :')
Gameb0i6 1 points 1y ago
At least we can’t make the drinks in the cups this year again. Just give them their cup and that’s all.
dspatola 1 points 1y ago
Wherever you’re most comfortable. I was always on hot bar because I could churn out high quality drinks super fast. But if you’re more comfortable elsewhere, ask your play caller.
pastabreadpasta 1 points 1y ago
Oven is always my favorite position. Don't have to talk to people and can run around and get shit done while there's no food.
BothWeb1004 1 points 1y ago
Bar. Give me pain.
BatWeary 1 points 1y ago
window, DTO, or drive bar. i haaaaaate window with a passion but i will stand there my entire 7.5 hour shift tomorrow if it means avoiding food/cafe bar/handoff.
broe071 1 points 1y ago
I was exposed to covid, so I have to isolate during the red cup day and I feel so bad that I'm not going to be able to help my store out honestly. Hopefully it isn't too bad. I would say drive through register is probably the easiest though.
Blacksmith_Kitchen 1 points 1y ago
Red cup day was a nightmare for us because we were shortstaffed so I was essentially doing drive-through and taking orders and doing front which is always fun (last year)
2624starbs 1 points 1y ago
My boss likes to set up peak while makes the schedules so I know I’m on bar tomorrow…. I don’t have to deal with handing out cups really so that’s nice… but why did Starbucks have to email everyone, now I know it’s gonna be busy :(
Kari86MRH 1 points 1y ago
I almost always got put on DTR, no matter the day/event/holiday so tbh I don't really know how difficult the other positions are. My boss put us in the same spots every shift
