Vaccine medical exemption denial (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by animeilove1219
So my doctor told me it was not safe to get the vaccine at this time and I was fine with being tested every week but my manager informed me Starbucks is not allowing workers to work with out the vaccine even with a doctors note. Does anyone have more info on this cause I thought this was illegal to do?

According to the weekly update (this weeks), Starbucks hasn’t said ye or nay on weekly testing yet. I’d suggest taking a look at the update and bringing that to your managers attention then go from there.

That’s what I thought as well but I thought maybe I missed something. Thank you.

They haven’t taken a stance yet, only said they’d prefer people get the vaccine but that they’re looking into weekly testing (essentially). Manager can’t give you grief for not being vaccinated if the company itself hasn’t straight up said you have to be vaccinated.

So just a doctor's note wouldn't work. You would need to file for a medical exemption via the accommodation route. It will be handled by a Starbucks case manager who deals with those requests and you will have to provide them with medical documentation to support your request. Us SM's don't have anything to do with doctor's notes.

I was told that Starbucks would make no accommodations what so ever for a medical or religious exemption which is why I’m confused but I still need to find my local state guidelines I guess since they have not made any final decisions.

We definitely will to my knowledge. They are still figuring things out but I would definitely prioritize reading the weekly update every week - this is where you'll get the most up to date info on where Sbux stands.
