How do you talk to your manager about a transfer... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by _abbycadabby_
...when the reason is she's a toxic, incompetent manipulator who makes all of her staff miserable?

I want to be able to stand my ground, be professional, and not get drawn into talking about drama. All advice welcome.

You need to phrase it to be about you, not her. Some legit reasons may be:

another store is more convenient for you for some reason,

in order to move up in the company, it is encouraged that you work in more than one location,

your mental health has been going downhill and you'd rather transfer than quit, but you need to make a change. You're under no obligation to talk about the nature of your health condition or its causes in details.

Good luck.

I think the second point is the one I'm planning to focus on, mostly because it's true. All of the strong and confident baristas I know have worked in multiple locations.

I would never intentionally get into a "here's all the reasons you suck" conversation with anyone in a professional setting and I'm really hoping we can keep it quick and to the point. But I'm afraid she'll try and bait or distract me and I'm nervous about staying on message.

My new manager sucks too I don’t know what to do about it. Has clear favorites and just cut my hours which I literally don’t think you can do
