I hate my coworkers. So much.(self.starbucksbaristas)

So I guess my sweatshirt fell off the coat rack today. Okay fine. Except it fell into the dirty/wet bar mop bin and no one thought “oh let me take this black sweatshirt that fell into. Pile of white rags out of the bin” so there were roughly 10 soaking wet rags piled on my hoodie by the time I noticed/clocked out. Best part? It’s the only jacket I have with me, it’s 35° and I’m supposed to go to class right now. Needless to say I’m skipping school, going home and drinking myself to sleep. Also might not go back because I already feel so disrespected half the time, and this just adds to it. My sweatshirt is fucking SOAKING wet

Fucking quit.

Oh I am. They’re not even getting a 2 weeks notice at this point. I’m calling tomorrow when I wake up and I’m just saying “yeah this ain’t workin anymore. I won’t be in today or ever again” was it an overreaction to skip school for my hoodie? Kinda but also who tf wants to sit in a gross, smelly, wet hoodie for 4 hours? Not me!
SNES18227 points1y ago
Not at all. That mess is gross, and it’s cold haha.

the store i work at now is not the store that i was originally training at, my bag would always “fall” into the trash can and everyone was so hostile and fucking mean. i totally feel you , some baristas r fucking rude and unpleasant asf
Distinct-Apartment39 [OP]20 points1y ago
I honestly don’t doubt that it fell. Jackets fall all the time. And I don’t pick up someone’s fallen coat unless it fell when I grabbed mine. But I’m also not throwing WET USED BAR MOPS THAT HAVE BEEN GOD KNOWS WHERE ON OTHER PEOPLES PERSONAL BELONGINGS
ElectricalScience89 points1y ago
yeah i 100% could’ve just been too sensitive but also i feel like if someone’s bag fell in the trash i would take it out for them 😭
canidieyet_11 points1y ago
right?? and if i saw someone’s hoodie in the mop bucket i would absolutely reach in and get it 😭 i don’t understand how people are okay with disrespecting people’s things.

My lunch was "old" only when a specific person, who always left stuff in the fridge, would be clocking out and decide to "clean the fridge"... When my stuff was just put in there, obvious to anyone that had been in the fridge earlier that day because I label it with my name.
Took a very aggressive "Hey, stop fucking with my food." confrontation for it to stop. After several tries of genuinely reminding her that a brand new Tupperware with my name on it that just showed up in the fridge wasn't old by any metric.
I was so happy when she left. Another barista tried mean-girling a newer barista and the whole store shut that shit down in half a second. We like our team attitude, no toxicity in this cafe.

This reminds me of a story from 3 jobs ago... There's a large chain of convenience / sandwich shops where I live (Philadelphia, PA area) called Wawa. I went there a few times a week to pick up lunch before work, as did a co-worker of mine.
This one day, I put my lunch in the common fridge & at lunch time, could not find it. I thought I was losing my mind.
Turns out, my co-worker also got her lunch from Wawa that day, opened MY sandwich & assumed they made her order wrong & threw it away!
Not funny at the time, because I had no lunch, but hilarious looking back. (I cannot remember now why I couldn't run out to get something else.)

I hate where i work too. One of the shifts decided to take up drinking during his breaks and his closes are terrible. Dirty water in tea containers kinda shit. Then wants to complain about how things are left for him when it's been two people running the shift from 12-4 with no breaks in between
RUddertown10 points1y ago
A shift is drinking alcohol at work? Tell your store manager, tf?

on a side note am i the only one wringing out rags before tossing them? i wring them out in the dish sink before putting them in the bin so it’s not a trash can full of sopping wet milk rags left to stink up the place
phoenixia2176 points1y ago
No I do too, I drape them over the sides to dry and then I throw them in the bin when they’re dry. Definitely cuts down on the smells and it’s a habit I picked up from my previous coffee shop jobs lmao
Agreeable_Tea33442 points1y ago
I do too. Its easier to carry the rags when they're not soaking wet! Also same and the others, rinsing out the rags with water cuts down on the gross smell. So rinse and wring before going in the rag bucket.
symebe2 points1y ago
I do too, I thinks it’s so respectful and common sense. Some people just don’t get it
use-that1 points1y ago
same with rinsing out the mop after you mop the back or lobby, everybody just lets it sit with the dirty water in it and it makes the mop stink which in turn makes the floors stink next time we mop
omogal1237 points1y ago
same diff story! I have this co worker who doesnt clean up after herself srly she leaves it and expect someone to clean it.
Distinct-Apartment39 [OP]6 points1y ago
I have a coworker who thinks she’s a supervisor, to the point one of my SSV literally has to say “who’s the authority figure here?” Will boss people around while sitting there doing nothing. If you ask her to grab you milk she ignores you, but you don’t hand her milk when she asks and you might as well have killed her first born or smn
Dr_mombie4 points1y ago
Dude, class is too important to skip just because other people suck. Can you possibly swing by a shop and grab a hoodie to get you by or ask a friend to drop one off for you to borrow in exchange for a coffee? Getting that degree is key to having freedom (of skill and education) to walk out on shitty work environments and finding better ones that treat you like a human.
Distinct-Apartment39 [OP]2 points1y ago
I was too broke :/ if it was an option I would’ve. It was 1 day and I can make up the hours. I just needed to get home
super-duper-trooper-3 points1y ago
That really sucks! But try not to take it as a personal affront, people get careless when they are in a rush, 90% of the baristas I've worked with get tunnel vision and stuff like that happens.
Take a step back, try and see things for what they are, is a wet hoodie worth burning your professional bridges?
Is a wet hoodie worth knee capping your education?
Maybe pop into a goodwill or a thrift store and grab something cheap that'll get you through.
If it's time for you to move on, that's okay, theres nothing wrong with quitting a job, but keep in mind job abandonment/quitting without notice follows you.
IfuDidntCome2Party2 points1y ago
That is so terrible.
I would definitely not store personal items above a trash bin, toilet, mop bucket or sinks. It's asking for oopsies.
Distinct-Apartment39 [OP]1 points1y ago
Our back room is tiny. Usually ppl will at least throw your jacket to the side if it falls in the garbage. Have never seen what happened to me last night.
jjd0229802 points1y ago
WTH?! That’s just so wrong on many levels! So rude and disrespectful to say the least! They need to do better!
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
Yeah that’s messed up. I rather have rude customers than people I work with. But that’s everywhere u go. Gonna have shitty people everywhere.
SlowlyTremendous1 points1y ago
jus like my job ...useless mf's ... I personally would have "accidently" drop someone elses coat on the wetness and see if they like it.
